RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Thyroid Medications/reply

I all ready take thyroid med right now it's a pretty high dose, does anyone know
whether once u get your weight down if it can reverse your thyroid problems? I
have my consulation in 3 weeks, I just pray I qualify since I'm on a lot of meds
for other health problems. My pcd told me I could take liquid meds for b/p and
that they have pain patches I could be put on for the fibro. I also have
diabetes type 2. some mild heart problems but my cardiologist ok'd me to have
the surgery, he said with my health problems the insurance ought to pay me to
have the surgery for it would be less they would have to pay out in the long
run. I'm concerned about the walking and excersing we will have to do after
surgery since the fibro gives me fits just to walk around the grocery store and
mall shopping is out these days but I'm determined to do it regardless of the
pain just to get this weight off and feel like a real woman again. I don't get
to be on much so can't read all of the emails for I
can't sit for long periods at the puter and my mail has been runing in the
thousands but I do skim the things I see that I should know before going thru
with this.

were dead - the psych said okay - we are going to discharge you after you

Hi Vicki,
Congratulations on your great weight loss and welcome to the group. I am
only a little over 4 months out so I'm not able to relate to your feelings yet,
other than I'm on my second plateau already. This one has lasted almost 4
weeks. I understand that we will all at one time or another reach plateaus that
our bodies are catching up too where we are. I've also been told that it will
probably take me 12 to 18 months to lose my weight. I started at 309 and
before my surgery I weighed about 290. To date I am at 237 and my estimated
time
of reaching my goal is next April to June, 2005. I hope to be graduating next
October, 2005. I have heard that if you make a change to your diet, such as
adding more protein or changing your calorie intake that might give you a jump
start. I wish you lots of luck and again congratulations, your doing great.

Today I think I did good on protein, but still not getting in my
dosage I need well I don't think I am. This morning I had a egg with
cheese and half toast, than nothing else but juicies until dinner I
have a baked fillet of fish cook in lemon juice. only eat half the
fish. I am the protein hater when it come to the shakes and ordering
stuff so I try to eat protein. I don't still have an appitite but I
just try to eat for the protein. I also still have the burning, and
no feeling in my thighs, used a hot pad on Thursday night and got
rid of the numbness and tingling but now I have a constant burning
and hurting, went to hospital on sunday and the same thing just gave
me a pain pill perscription and sent me home, I need them to tell me
what is wrong with my thighs. This Thursday I will be 4 weeks out
and my incision have not heal properly yet, and not do to see the
doctor until september 20 hope its well by then.
However I hope all my group friends are doing well.

Hi! I'm new to the group. And I am 1 year and 2 months post op. I had the open
RNY and I have come down from 456 to 242 lbs now. I know that is great. And I
THANK GOD for it! But I'm haveing a problem now with staying hungry all the
time and I can eat so much now! I was eating so little and losing so fast and
now I can eat almost as much food as I did before the surgery, well not quite
that much but I feel I'm eating much more than I should be able to at this
point. I've heard of so many people having this surgery and losing then gaining
back everything they have lost. I'm so afraid of that and scared that I have
already stretched out my stomach too much because I am not losing any more. It
seems I am stuck at 242lbs have been for 3 weeks now. Can someone give me some
advise on how much I should be eating at this point? MY dr. just tells me keep
it under 700 calories a day. Right! That's air and a glass of water! Thanks
for any help.....

My doctor told me if I had this sensation then lay flat for 10
minutes and wait. Then do not eat more but begin to drink liquids
slowly when the time has passed where you can drink. This happened
to me after 2 bites of scrambled eggs (used to be one of my favorite
foods - no more just looking at the pan gave me the shivers) Try
pureeing (sic) some protein or eating cottage cheese for your next
meal.

That's what they do...use it for short periods so it will jumpstart

I am much to old to be pregnant, but in our support group was a young
woman who had and Open RNY and has a happy healthy full term baby boy
who is now 9 mos old. I don't know if this procedure would be the
cause of pregnancy issues except for you would have to make sure you
were taking all the vitamins and folic acid you need to make a
healthy baby. Most people don't realize it but you only need to add
300 calories a day for a healthy baby if you haven't had this surgery
and most people add much more. Babies also will take what they need
first and leave the rest to you in most cases so you will be the one
with deficiencies.

Walking is hard, but exercising is really a good way
to boost your energy. Also, the food getting stuck
feeling may be from eating too fast. That will do it
to me everytime, so try taking smaller bites, chewing
longer and if that doesn't work, check with your dr as
it may be that your stoma needs to be opened a little.
Good luck,

Tired as Heck!

2008-02-24 16:45:22

I am 4 weeks post op for Gastric Bypass (RNY). They nicked my spleen
so I ended up with an open surgery instead of the Laproscopic because
they had to remove my spleen. Needless to say it has been alittle
rough but everyday is better. I am just so tired all the time. I am
down 31lbs (220lbs) but eating is a real chore. I am on a soft diet
now and I really have problems eating. It feels like the food
is "stuck" in my throat. Some foods I don't have a problem with, but
more often than not I get that feeling. It is usually to the point
that I want to vomit just to get some relief. Is this normal so soon
post op? Liquids never did this to me. I am taking my vitamins and
everything else I am suppose to do. I am just so tired all the time.
This is not fun and I am getting discouraged. How am I ever going to
get my energy back when I can't eat. Any words of wisdom? Mary

post on the pregnant women and fetus.

2008-02-24 12:08:52

this is the story on that.
An obese Massachusetts woman and her 8-month-old fetus died of
complications 18 months after stomach-stapling surgery, an apparent
first that is leading to warnings about the risks of pregancy soon
after the surgery.
The deaths raise concerns because most of the 110,000 people who
have gastric, or stomach, bypass surgery each year in this country
are women in their child-bearing years, say doctors at Brigham and
Women's Hospital in Boston who tried to save the mother and baby.
They reported on the case in a letter in Thursday's New England
Journal of Medicine.
Brigham surgeon Dr. Edward E. Whang cared for the 41-year-old woman
nearly two years ago, when she was brought to their emergency
department after two days at another hospital, where the cause of
sudden pain in her upper stomach was misdiagnosed.
"She was nearly dead," said Whang, who noted the woman had the
gastric bypass and prenatal care at other hospitals.
After tests and symptoms indicated a massive infection, Whang did
emergency surgery. He found most of the woman's small intestine had
slid through a hernia, or tear, in an adjacent membrane, a defect
sometimes left after the intestines are rearranged in the bypass
operation. The hole choked off blood to the stretch of intestines,
and the tissue turned gangrenous.
By then the fetus had died. Whang repaired the intestine, but the
woman died within a few hours. She still weighed 440 pounds; her
original weight was not available.
"This is a tragic case, but you need to look at the overall risk-
benefit of the surgery," said Dr. Harvey Sugerman, president of the
American Society for Bariatric Surgery, an educational group for
obesity surgeons.
Sugerman said three studies show extremely obese patients have death
rates as much as four or five times lower if they undergo gastric
bypass surgery, compared with those who don't, and other research
shows lower rates of pregnancy complications after the weight-loss
surgery.
Sugerman estimated more than 110,000 gastric bypasses will be done
in the United States this year. Complications strike as many as 1 in
5 patients, and it is believed that for every 200 patients, 1 to 4
will die.
Sugerman and other doctors said they know of no other mother-baby
deaths after the operation.
But Whang said about 85 percent gastric bypasses are performed on
women, most of childbearing age. He advised any pregnant patients
with sudden pain to see a bypass expert quickly.
"Most doctors recommend contraceptives for two years after the
surgery" to avoid pregnancy until the woman's weight stabilizes,
said Dr. Sattar Hadi, who runs the high-risk obesity clinic at
Vanderbilt University's Center for Human Nutrition.
Hadi said it's unclear whether the Massachusetts woman's hernia was
due solely to the surgery "or the fetus pushing onto the intestines."
Dr. Mark Tucker, director of bariatric surgery at the University of
Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Stratford, said such hernias
are not uncommon and can happen up to five years after the surgery.
Because fertility increases with major weight loss, he said, reports
of pregnancies within a year of surgery are becoming more common.
In the standard type of gastric bypass surgery performed on this
woman, a small pouch at the stomach's top is separated from the rest
using staples. Moving down the small intestine a few feet, the
surgeon then cuts it in two, pulls the bottom segment up and
attaches it to the new pouch. The dangling upper segment, which
carries digestive juices, is then reattached to the lower segment.
Patients then lose weight because the new pouch holds a few ounces
of food at a time, and some calories and nutrients are not absorbed
because the food bypasses much of the stomach and small intestine.
Patients must take protein and vitamin supplements to avoid
malnutrition.
Since the start of 2003, three other Massachusetts patients have
died after gastric bypass, and the state is developing guidelines to
increase safety.
The federal Medicare program has paid for stomach bypass surgeries
for a few years, but only in people with related medical conditions
such as diabetes. It covered 7,801 operations in 2003, about double
the number in 2001.
Dr. Steve Phurrough of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid
Services said the agency recently ruled obesity can be considered an
illness on its own, so an advisory panel this fall is to recommend
whether Medicare should cover the surgery in people without related
conditions. He expects the panel will urge waiting until there's
more research on the surgery on the elderly.
"We have significant concerns about the risks," Phurrough
said. "People die from this procedure."

you had insurance. Its their mission to find and treat anyone from
any background. I have been on both sides of the fence there and
did not see a difference for any illness be it a serious one or a
minor one. Private/System Hospitals will sometimes give you grief
but even there we were seen without an being neglected. You might
want to start looking outside your boundaries and see that all

thank you all for your replies. I need to find a site that has more
bad experiences on it than this one. Then mayby I can get more help.
No offense to anyone here but it has been over four years since my
surgery and mayby I have more experience than most on this site.
I need to address one issue that was brought up by two or three
people on this site who were trying to help me. It is about those who
said to go to the emergency room to get help since I lost my health
insurance. Mayby it is because I live in Texas, I do not know about
other states. But if one does not have insurance, what you hear in
the emergency room (I have been many times) is excuses. You cannot
get tests done (cat, stress, etc.) to prove if you have a pulmonary
embolism or heart trouble/blockage/stroke etc. They, (emergency room
doctors), will treat you to get you on your feet and that is all.
Now I suppose if you were having a heart attack as you got there
then they would give you help to get you on your feet, and believe
me, that would be all. To say one can get treatment at the emergency
room is not correct, at least when it comes to my situation.
I wanted to say this on this site so as no one will be mislead
intothinking one can get emergency room "help". If you loose your
health insurance and you have a preexisting condition, you are going
to be in a world of hurt.

a new me.

2008-02-20 06:14:40

Hello everyone. It has been such a busy weekend with everyone
getting ready to go back to school here and I only have a 3 year
old!!..haha. I just wanted to share some great news with you. I was
able to ride my bike around the block twice in a row this weekend!!
Now while a lot of people may not consider this a big
accomplishment, I have not been on a real bike in over 5 years. We
had to go get me a helmet since we live on base but we had such a
blast. Now my 3 year old is bustling to keep up with mommy!!!
Also, I am very bad with names but someone posted here about how we
don't talk about the bad things from surgery. Well, I am almost 8
weeks out and I know I have posted my situations. I may not have
posted them recently because I have now healed and am moving on. But
from weeks 3 to 5, I told my hubby I was going to die and I would
never get better. At one week out, I developed an infection and they
had to reopen the bottom of my LONG incision and put in a drainage
tube. It set me back quite a few weeks and smelled nasty. Then at 3
weeks, when they took my staples out, that weekend, the top of my
incision "popped" open about 2 inches. So I only had about 3 inches
of closed incision. I was very afraid they would meet and open me
completely. I had to cover them both for weeks and they never seemed
to be getting any better. I told my hubby that I made it through
this great big surgery and I was going to die from these openings.
All the while my great doc told me I was fine. Well, at week 5, the
bottom one closed up and one week later, the top one scabbed up and
now they are both closed and I look like any other person's scar.
WAs I scared? You bet your butt. Was it a hard process? Like I have
never had before. WOuld I do it again? In a heartbeat. WE all take
risks everyday. I am doing things that I could never have thought I
would do again. I was able to get on a swing at the park without it
cutting into my thigh. We all need to know the facts but we also
need encouragement. I got that here and at obesity help when I
thought I wouldn't make it. And now I am sharing my story so that if
this happens to you, you know you are not alone. Best wishes to all
of you (I hate to say good LUCK because our surgeons are not lucky,
they are skilled :) If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
I thought I was so prepared for this surgery after one year of
research, but when it happens to you, mostly likely you will be like
me.... and PANIC...ha ha. Have a great week everyone. And for people
going into surgery this week, you are in my prayers!!
Take care,
Tina

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] How much am I supposed to eat?

2008-02-19 22:16:15

how far out from surgery are you? it is important to watch what your eating,
specially you need to get 50-60 grams of protein in a day. we have to be
aware of what our food choices are. protein first, veggies and then fruit. if
your not getting in enough protein and calories you could go into what they
call "starvation" mode and that isn't a good thing. i know how hard it is but
it
does get easier. i'm little over 4 months out and i still struggle to get
all my protein in. best of luck to you.

How much am I supposed to eat?

2008-02-19 19:49:12

I feel like I am not eating enough. Is there any risk to not eating
enough? Yesterday for example I had some popcorn for lunch and a
little for dinner... Today I did a little better, popcorn for
lunch and then I scraped the cheese off of a piece of pizza, ate
that, and then picked at the crust... Right now I'm watching a show
about some anorexic girl who eats more than I do!

Vitamins/FUZE??

2008-02-19 14:43:43

Someone was talking the other day about the vitamins their doctor
recommended for them. They talked of FUZE slenderize. I was
wondering if every vitamin in there is safe. I noticed that one,
citimax? maybe, is used as an appetite suppressor. Is this ok to
consume?

Its nice to hear the stories of people having complication, for those
of you who have had the surgery, is there anything us Pre-op people
can do to help the situation or to lower the risk of complications?

Good morning --
My name is Wayne Kleinert and I started a group for the WLS community
centered around the benfits of sharing experiences with products and
services which have been useful and effective for you. As the
president of the company that manufactures Innermint Internal
Deodorant (btw...we are sponsors of the San Francisco & New York City
Walk for Obesity...see you there!!), I know that nothing is better
then word of mouth testimonials, but more importantly, in an age
where perceptions are created through sometimes outrageous claims by
product manufacturers, a venue for honest, actual experiences is
certainly needed here. My group is a place you can go and express
your likes and dislikes about anything related to a product you have
tried, a service which has helped (or hindered) you or anything
related to the same...even products/services unrelated to WLS! If you
are considering purchasing something, check with the group first to
learn from someone else's experience. I would only ask that you be
honest critical and/or present praise--avoid libelous commentary and
respect the intelligence of your peers to make educated decisions on
their own.
Thank You all, and I hope to see you benefit from this venue.

Haven't Been Here In A While

2008-02-16 07:46:55

You all probably don't remember me. I haven't been here in a few
months. My computer broke down for a while so I've been off line. I
finally got it fixed though and figured I'de come back and see how
everyone is doing. I must say there are a lot of names here I don't
recognize. Well anyway, I guess gastric bypass wise I am doing
okay. I had hit my first plateau a couple weeks ago but I just
started losing again. I'm out of surgery just over 9 months now and
I have lost 151 pounds so far. I guess that's not too bad. Better
than I had expected actually. I am having other physical problems
though. When I was going for the pre-op testing for the surgery a
year ago they found out that I have a kidney disease, kidney failure
actually. Well it's getting worse. Fortunately, the pre-op testing
caught the kidney failure before it was too late, they have been
watching it closly, monitoring my bloods and kidney functioning.
Well some of the levels have been getting better with the weight
loss. But my potassium and CO2 levels have gone crazy, very
critically low levels. So now of course I can't have anything with
potassium in it. Well I have been pretty much living on fruit
lately. Now I can't have any at all. No potatoes and other
vegtables I've also been living on. This is making things very
difficult for me. Fruit and veges are really all I WANT to eat. I
just don't have a taste for anything heavier anymore. I'm terrible
with getting my protein in. I used to be a big chicken eater, ate it
almost every day. Now I dread eating it, it's just too heavy for
me. All I crave is fruit and veges. As you can imagine I'm not
eating much these days at all since they have taken away the fruit
and veges. I have been eating some cereal lately though, I did add
that because that's kind of light. But even that makes me sick
sometimes. Sorry for rambling on and on here. I just don't have
anyone to really talk about this stuff with who would understand.
Does anyone out there have this same problem with eating the heavier
things? Well I'm sorry to take up so much of all your time. Hope
everyone is having a good day.

2008-02-15 15:40:56

every one that has been here a while knows i am a
cronic complainer .. i had a vomitting problem, ended
up being a stricture.. closing between the potch and
the intestines..
well at thursday night support group a gal a week
before had surgery complained of the same thing we had
spoken before and she called her doc etc.. they said
not to worry its normal. no its not .
it progressed to now she is vommitting blood. she has
gained a ulcer in the same area i have .. i went over
to her and told her we are going the emregency.. fyi
being a bariactric patine they cannot treat you with a
endoscopy, butt they can call a surgeon or treat for
dihydration.. they didn't they just sent her home...
but that got her hubby to get on the phone call the
endoscopy doc rthat did mine and seen it was covered
by ensurance and hopfully she will not have a
problem..
my point it.. i read a part of somones mail and
complained about this support group.. i deleted it and
thought a real support group will support go give
advise and if need be go tot he hospitol.. i have
seen many ones who had surgery in the hospitol and
like wise many in my support group.. we take names
down and have a huge calling list if there is no
problem...
while we were at the emergency the gal had the main
support group organizer and myself there..does any of
you have such a support group that checks in and looks
after your fellow bariactric folks.. we are in
ventura, california and you can call any time to join
are support cause it does give you support.. or in my
case puts me in check for what i am doing wrong..lol

dates. starlet/./.
sorry for such a long email if any one reads it..

could bring in but he was worried about them mistaking who the
patient was...LOL! I told my dh last night...aren't you worried
about them sticking you with something if you are laying in bed with
me? His comment was he'd be dressed...LOL! Dang men! I really
can't see us in a small hospital bed either...LOL! One bump into me
where they've done the surgery and he'd be on his butt quick! Have
a great weekend!

Hi, Vicki....Just wanted to comment on this little pain I don't think it's
anything to worry about! I am 1 year and 2 months out from surgery and I
remember when I was a couple of weeks out I don't think there was anything on me
that didn't experience pain from time to time. And I too had pains around my
incision and still do but now I know it is from hernia's that are going to be
taken care of in December when I go in for my skin grafting...I started out at
456lbs and as of today I am down to 242lbs...and feeling much better. Of course
I'm 53 yrs old so I had a lot of complications even before the open ruen y by
pass surgery....You can expect a little pain now and then, but if it gets
intense or a constant pain then you might want to check with your
surgeon....good luck to you! From Vicki too.....

Ok are you sitting down, I know where it is. LOL, let see my parents moved to

Palatka. I know it well. Im actully going to be dropping my boys down to see
them for labor day weekend. Ok ask away on the questions. I love my doctor. I
have had to go for a 2week, one month, 3 month, 6 month, 9, month and one year
and will go for a 18 month post op as well. I find them very very helpful with
anything I have had questions on. This doctor makes you go though support
meetings before you can even get a date for surgery, I go to support meetings
about twice a month (when I can find a sitter) I know its hard not to do but if
you think negitive I feel and this is for myself as well then I will fail. But
if you think Postive then you will be postive, I will tell you straight up my
best friend says I am obsessed cause I am so afraid that I will
gain weight back. If thats what it takes so be it. No your not crazy, I would
never think that of someone, you want your health and life back which there is
nothing wrong with that. Please feel free to email me at any time and if you
have questions feel free.
I had my surgery on May 5th of 2003. I have pictures in the picture part of the

Re: Celebrex

2008-02-11 06:56:49

Oh, indeed. I'm being even more stringent about taking it only when
I have pain (they recommend a 100 mg dose daily, I take it 4 days per
week instead). In addition, I think it's worth mentioning again that
it's up for debate about how safe it is: different gastric bypass
surgeons have different feelings about it (although most surgeons,
from my impression, seem to think it's safe enough to take, since it
isn't nearly as associated with dyspepsia), and no conclusive studies
(that I'm aware of) have been done with gastric bypass patients to
see how cox-2 inhibitors affect them.
I'll bet the reason you were getting your liver checked out (through
blood tests) is because NSAIDS can have hepatotoxicity properties,
and celebrex has been responsible for a few cases of hepatitis. But
it's pretty rare to have that happen.

Natural body building

2008-02-09 22:57:31

Actually, again I forget who posted about this (I think it was a
couple of people), but thanks for the concerns.
When it comes to body building, I read and read and read. I won't
put anything in my body that will enhance my lifting performance
unless I've come across significant amounts of studies that declare
it being relatively safe. The supplements I'm on include:
-chromium picolinate (400 mg/day)
-flaxseed/fish oil (4 supplement grams per day, plus whatever I take
in from eating fish, etc.)
-L-carnitine (in small amounts from So-Be LEAN, that stuff is
EXPENSIVE...heh, but so is the So-Be LEAN, it tastes SO GOOD)
-creatine (5 g per day)
That's on top of the recommended supplements for gastric bypass
patients. I had a vitamin/mineral blood concentration profile done
about a month ago, and I'm just fine.
I also drink about 3 liters of water per day, and drink about 92
grams of protein in whey.
Also worth noting: the best protein mix I've ever tasted is made by a
company called Syntrax. It's called Nectar, and it comes in fruity
flavors. My favorite is lemonade. It tastes like crystal light with
a slightly gelatinous aftertaste. There's 23 grams of protein per
scoop, and it's high quality. I haven't noticed a reaction to the
lactose in it, either, and I've been very intolerant since my
surgery. You can order it from www.bulknutrition.com, if you're
interested.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Celebrex

2008-02-09 17:02:11

From what my surgeon has told me celebrex is out unless you take another
medicine to counteract the effect and i'm sorry but right now i can't remember
what that is. Luckily I haven't taken celebrex since 3 weeks before my surgery
and I'm doing pretty well. I had been on it for years and would have to take
blood tests every 6 months to check my liver. If you do take it, please only
take under your doctors supervision as with any medication and have regular
blood tests to make sure your doing well.

Celebrex

2008-02-09 11:36:00

To the person who asked about this: actually, my doctors seem to
think it's not a problem, and I don't really either. NSAIDs like
motrin (which contains ibuprofen), yes, can cause gastrointestinal
bleeding. Celebrex is an NSAID. However, it goes above and beyond
the normal NSAID's broad selectivity: it's a cox-2 inhibitor.
Studies have shown that cox-2 inhibitors (like Celebrex and Vioxx)
tend not to have the same influence on gastro-intestinal bleeding as
NSAIDs. However, the jury's still out as far as how much doctors
should be concerned about their behavior.
Since aerobic exercise, for me, is next to impossible without
Celebrex, and I've not got a history of ulcers or any other gastro-
intestinal issues, he approved my orthopedic surgeon's prescription.

I got brave and tried cottage cheese! A big step for this picky

it was OLD!!! Way past is prime!!! But Dh and I bought some for me

type by "Breakstone" and it has pineapple on the side. Only problem
was there wasn't enough pineapple to get me through the cottage

Taking antacids help the pain. I know the acid part of the stomach is
not connected anymore, so the fact that antacids help is a puzzle. If
staple line was leaking, then I should be having much more serious
problem by now. My doc will not see me anymore as I have lost my
health insurance. I have had one pulmonary embolism due to the
surgery, ( a serious and possibly fatal result that no one considers
before surgery, but is very common) If it was another one coming on
then why does antacids help? When you have no insurance, it is bad!
Is there anyone else out there that have had a bad surgery after
effects? Everyone seems to think it is a good deal on this site, at
least as far as I have read. It has been an overall bad experience
for me. The after effects named above are only a small part of that
bad experience.
Can anyone relate to any of this?

Hi Amy,
I have eaten them and peanuts and have no problems. I checked with my doctor
before doing so and he said in moderation of course and they were a good
source of protein.

pinched sciatic nerve. My first date was supposed to be 7-23-04 but
that had to be postponed to 11-01-04 due to my thyroid, well now my
date is 9-10-04!!!!! two weeks away. I am so excited.......I hope
this date is set in stone.

Re: Judith-OT

Hey Judith,
Yes we did go a "long" way to be with the men we love. I always
said I'd never leave home but after my son graduated high school and
I knew I'd be alone (he went off to college) I figured I'd seek out
my soulmate! knocked me off my feet when my dear popped into my
life and swept me off to Alabama. All I can attest to is its true
love! After much depression...not with him but with trying to "fit"
in here, not being able to find a job (told I am over qualified for
the area)we decided to foster kids. Greatest challenge I could have
taken on....except for the mouthy teens!!! Needless to say we are
childless right now until our agency calls with some. For now we
are glad since my surgery is just around the corner.
About the Rockies...I love the mountains and can't find myself to
call Mt. Cheaha a "real" mountain cause I like those with peaks not
rounded on top. The air is so much cleaner too! I have asthma!
Its much like it is here as far as "big" cities nearby to go and
do "serious" shopping in yet small town to feel not so closed in. I
have family in Montana/Wyoming and its so lovely there. Cold...but
lovely! (smiles) Okay I know I am dreaming...LOL!!! I know there
are tons of things that Alabama doesn't do that TX does that just
makes me wonder who they have been able to continue as a state.
Its true about recycling, schools, government in general...its
horrible. Really behind the time's...and that's just my .02! If I
need something and can't find it nearby we either make a list up and
go towards B'ham or Atlanta to shop. My Mom is a master herbalist
and send's me stuff when I need it as far as "health food" stuff.
My sister sends me the spices that I love to cook with or I fill up
with stuff when we go home to visit. It does cost ton's more here
than other places to purchase items...or find quality of items too.
Feel free to write me off message board at my email address. I'd
love to chat with you anytime. I know how frustrating it can be
living in a different enviroment too. What part of Germany are you
from? That is where most of my roots are buried.
Hugs, Linda

WOW-- now see things like this are GREAT...
i am keeping all these notes....just found out that my insurance does
cover the procedure they just need a letter of necessity, i have one
from primary doc, foot doc, ortho surgeon, heart doc and female
doc!!
i just dont know if work will consider this for short term
disability??

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Question : Don Miguel Pepper Steak Bowls

2008-02-06 06:43:29

Hey Ella,
How about fish? At our Walmart they have a great variety of shrimp and fish
for a reasonable price (I love fish). I like to poach it in just a little
water and lemon pepper, and then I ad lime juice......delicious!!!!
And a bag of whiting or a big whole salmon last a loooong time if you have a
4 oz pouch.
Just my thoughts...no offence meant...:)

Hey Linda,
Oh mei, do you mean that moving to the Rockies as a last resort? I
understand the Rocky Mountains even more as "End of the world" than Southern
Alabama.
Here they don't even recycle, and if you try to, you'll be "punished" by
using up all that gas to get from one town that has a paper recycling bin to
the next town where they recycle aluminum and so on.
What really bugs me is the fact that wherever you look there is junk food,
but if you try to find the "right stuff" you have to reach deeeeeep into you
wallet, or you can't find a Health food store, period.
Us girls and our husbands!!!! It seems like we both went a long way to be
with the one we love..... :)

Don Miguel Pepper Steak Bowls

2008-02-06 01:07:47

Hi, Sorry for replying to a post when it doesn't have anything to do with it.
For some reason I cannot send a new message (can someone pls help me with that).
A while ago someone posted these Pepper Steak bowls being available at Walmart -
I checked yesterday in the frozen food aisle and couldn't fine them - is there
any chance they may be someplace else other than the frozen food aisle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ella

Question : Don Miguel Pepper Steak Bowls

2008-02-05 10:28:22

Hello,
Someone mentioned purchasing Don Miguel Pepper Steak Bowls at
WalMart - saying they are great for protein. I looked in my Walmart
in the frozen food section and they were not there. I am wondering
if maybe it is available in the prepared aisle (non frozen) Anyone
with info if you could let me know - I would certainly appreciate it.
Thanks! Ella

Judith

2008-02-04 11:02:17

Hey Judith,
I can totally understand the "end of the world" comment. I came to
Anniston, AL. from a lifetime in San Antonio Tx. where I never had
to want for anything. I could jump on a bus and get it or just walk
not far from our home and get it also. We did have auto's though
but it helped the air quality to carpool or take the Bus. Its been
a tough learning curve for me these past 2 yrs and 9 mos. and my
husband still calls me Dorothy. His comment "Dorothy your not in
Texas anymore" instead of the more common "Kansas". UGH...men! ;-)
My Husband's a California boy too but has lived here 16 yrs due to
being stationed in the Army and having married an AL.
woman/producing two children. We will wait until they are out of
school then I think head to the Rockies!

A FLOWER FOR YOU FROM ME
I Picked You!
My instructions were to send this to four people that I wanted to
have a good day and I picked you.
Please pass this to four people you want to have a good day
as well as the person who sent it to you.
This is powerful and there is nothing attached, please do not break this
pattern.
There is no cost but a lot of rewards, let's continue to send this along.
Have a bright sunny day! I know I picked more than four
and you can, too!

Re: Protein spray for hair.

2008-02-03 23:40:41

Being a hair stylist, I have a few clients that have very thin
hair.. We recommended going to any Beauty Supply store (aka Sally's
Beauty Supply for people in Philadelphia Area) and getting any one
that's on sale. If you look carefully at the brands and what
ingredients are in it, it doesn't matter if it's the exspensive
SALON brand or a generic one.. and yes they do work.

I forgot to mention that they come in either ranch or nacho cheese
flavors. I think they are the same nutrition wise. I was listing the
nutrition from the ranch ones.

Q-Smart

2008-02-03 15:02:13

I buy the quaker q-smart bars as well. I purchased mine about a
month ago from Giant Eagle. They also have Q-Smart Snack Crisps.
They are awesome! I still have a few of the bars left because I
really have no appetite for sweets but force myself to eat them for
added protein. Nutrition for crisps 120 Cal., 4 Fat, Carb 7, Fiber
1, Sugar 1, Protein 14. This is for a 1 oz. serving, about 47 pieces
it says. Just wanted to let everyone else know.

2008-02-03 05:20:46

I've been taking thyroid medication, in pill form, for about a month now. I am
one year post-op, and according to my labs, I am absorbing it. The medication I
take is called Synthroid.

Hi guys! I have a girlfriend that's interested in having RNY, but
she's on thyroid medicine (Levothroid) right now and is worried about
how she will take it (ie: dissolving, crushing...) post-op. Have any
of you had to deal with this? I figured some of you out there had and
wanted to see if you could help answer her question. Thanks!

Hello~-Denise

2008-02-01 19:57:23

my sister named her daughter after my mom
Linda Lou <iamllu@...
name I was thinking of
my own Daddy! He passed away in 1991 and I was his little girl.
Followed him around and did whatever a "son" would have done with
him. Miss him terribly and feel him with me daily! Named my son
after him too except for the middle name...Bernhart...had the
heartburn the whole pregancy and that name would have reminded me
all the time.
