Linda,
Yes, he left me because I was hospitalized 3 times in 31 days for asthma. I
have tried personals - etc. That is where I have met my current man - I just
wish we were closer - it is too hard for me to keep doing the driving. I met
him on the matchdoctor site - shoot i've been to a lot of get togethers for
singles, and it didn't happen - then I started talking to him one day - and we
hit it off. I can't exactly move because I take care of my 83 year old dad and
work (except for i'm off recuperating after the surgery)...
Love ya, El
PS _ my ex came to visit this past Sunday -a nd said I looked great- I said I
KNOW. LOL
Linda Lou <iamllu@...
Okay correct this mixed up brain here...is he the one who left you
also cause you were sick?...or did I get twisted somewhere? I
understand what your feeling cause I was that way also until I found
my husband...and the whatever is better...LOL!!! If your brave try
the personals cause I have to admit I've helped plenty friends meet
some really nice guy's.

said that when I reach my goal weight we're going back to Vegas to get

I have a simese cat, she is about 3 or 4 yrs old, and she is beautiful,
declawed, and fixed... I just got a dog, and i thought about taking her to the
SPCA and give her up for adoption, but the only thing is that she isnt the
easiest thing to get close to.. It took me two weeks before she would stop
hissing at me... Now she is use to me, finally after all these years.. I was
afraid about how her and the dog would get along, but they seem to be doing
fine... But if you want her, I will let you have her for free... She is a good
cat, just scared sometimes and is use to getting attached to one person only...
sometimes she will bite me still, but that is because of the type of cat she
is.. real moody one minute, and loving the next..

Hi Vicki,
What I have found here and on other groups is such an inspiration
for all of us new and getting ready for surgery. You have done such
a swell job this past year, you lost over 200 lbs and you've made a
difference in your life! HIGH FIVE YA!!! You've certainly been
blessed!!!
All I could suggest as far as feeling hungry/eating all the time is
find something else to do with your hands. I found crafts helped
me, yard/gardening work and exercising. I also have heard of
chewing gum helps.
Gas...I was told to get beano or phayzeme to help with the gas
problems. Might be something your eating also giving your the
discomfort.

Hey Vicki,
You've made the first important step and thats that you recognize your falling
into your old pattern and now you're going to do something about it! Don't be
so hard on yourself. You've lost OVER 200 pounds in just over a year, thats
awesome. So now you need to go back to the "pouch rules" and get back on track.
Remember that change doesn't happen overnight but you can do it. Go into the
"files" section of the group message board and read the pouch rules again. #1
Get your protein in first and get your water in!
Keep us posted and hang in there!

that might be helpful I would really apperciate them! I don't want to start
gaining back any of the weight I have lost! I'm 53 years old and was litterly

that's when I decided to go for the surgery. And I had so many health problems
that they told me I had only a 3 per cent chance of even making it through the
surgery....I've just come too far to turn back now.....And also one more
question...Does anybody else have trouble with a lot of GAS?
And if so what do you do for it?.....Any help or advice would be so great

I am right behind ya...now 44 yrs old!!! I was working with an Ins.

familiar with the area. Yes I am in Anniston and have been here for
almost 3 yrs from San Antonio. Met my husband and he swept me away
to live here.;-) But we hope to relocate after his kids graduate
high school to the Rockies!!! Somewhere where the air is cleaner
and the...oh yeah that is a song isn't it??? Yes surgery is on the
7th and I hope to only be there and out as quick as possible. The
house will fall down around the poison ivy, that ivy crap with the
bigggg leaves and any other varmit/plant if I don't bounce back
quickly. Husband doesn't like yardwork yet he bought his 2+ acre
place...LOL!!! If familiar with our area, we are off the hills of
Ft. McClellan. I have a fiesty coyote who ventures through here
often, beautiful deer, frisky bunnies...sorry I was day dreaming
again...LOL!!!
I pray you will have a wonderful vacation while your gone and to see
that sweet granddaughter will be the highlight of your trip I am
sure. They grow so quickly too! Nope I don't have any yet just
dreaming again. My son is in the Navy, 21 and single plus getting
ready to depart to Japan in March.
I can relate to all of your plans for the future cause I also have
similiar one's! But you forgot the front car of the rollercoaster!
Gosh I have been on so many with my son but would like to do it with
room to slide! Riding a horse again is another one of mine!
Are you on the OH board here in AL? I go there often and they are
so helpful plus they talk about your Doctor at times. Oh good
stuff! If your not there you need to come and visit also! But I
have to admit this is such a fantastic message board that I plop
down often to read and answer stuff as much as possible. Husband
feels neglected at time's but I just tell him to nap!

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] How many calories???

2008-03-25 12:29:52

My doctor said if you still have weight to lose-which
most people would-then your body is still working off
fat that is reserved and you want to burn that fat
off. This is why continuing with the lower calories
will help you do that. He told me around 1,200
calories a day will probably slow the weight loss
dramatically, but I think it depends on how much
exercise a person does. I guess experimenting each
week with different calorie levels and exercise will
give you the true readout. Do what feels right for
your own body and gives you the results you are after.

Hi Linda,
I live just south of Huntsville in a golf course community. Are
you in Anniston? I have read a lot of posts but keep getting
people's situations mixed up. I know your surgery is on the 7th and
I am so excited for you. I could have had mine a few weeks ago but
we had a vacation planned for quite a while so I had to wait. We
are leaving today to go to Denver for 10 days to visit my daughter,
son-in-law, and precious granddaughter, Mia who is 19 months. We
are going to babysit while they go to Boulder for a wedding and then
we are going to our daughter's best friend's wedding the second
weekend. Can't believe I got my husband to take off so much time
from work
I am so ready for this surgery and feel like my life "is on
hold" until my surgery date. I just can't wait to feel better
physically and also to feel better about myself. I am 53 years old
and have fought this battle a long time. I'm sure you are much
younger and it is wonderful that you will have this tool to help you
through the years. I am doing it for a lot of reasons but when you
get my age your mortality really rises up to slap you in the face.
I am only five years younger than my mother was when she died of a
massive heart attack - no warning, nothing. I have been living with
this fear for a long time and I feel like the surgery is going to
give me the opportunity to see my grandchildren grow up and I'll be
able to get in the floor and play with them, go to the swimming pool
without being embarrassed, etc. I can only see positive things
coming from this experience.
My doctor here is Dr. Facundus. He has done over 1100 of these
surgeries and has come highly recommended. I have been so impressed
by the unbelievably thorough process they have to get you prepared
for the surgery. He does twelve surgeries a week now. My family
physician is behind me 100%. I have had every test known to man and
it is funny that now I know I have a "healthy heart" according to
the cardiologist. That is great news and a weight lifted but now I
know I can be even healthier.
Good luck with your surgery. I'll be off line for about 10 days
but look forward to hearing about your progress. Keep in touch.
Ronda

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Starvation Mode

2008-03-24 11:59:23

As it was explained to me, when the majority of the stomach is done away
with the hunger circuit is shorted out. In other words, the hormone grehlin
(sp?) which causes you to want to eat can't get to where it usually goes,
and you just aren't interested in food. The body is a remarkable thing,
though, and will establish a new pathway, leading to the return of that "got
to eat something even though I am not actually hungry" feeling. Usually
happens six to twelve months after the surgery. The honeymoon for me lasted
about nine months.
As far as the nutritional aspects, my dr and nutritionist said that as long
as you make a reasonable attempt at getting enough protein, and take your
supplements, you shoudl be fine. Believe me, the inability to eat very much
will moderate, and you will get much more interested in food as time goes
by.

I am getting a litte concerned with the amount of food that I am NOT
taking in. My body just doesn't seem hungry anymore (has been this
way for three weeks). There have been a couple of days where I feel
a little hungry, but after a couple bites it is as if my body is
almost "bored" of eating and I just stop. Does that make sense? At
any rate, I am excercising ... alot ... and I thought that would
make me hungry. Typical excercise day consists of either a 75
minute step aerobis/toning class or 20 min elliptical trainer and
another 20 on the treamill or bike and some free weights for about
another 15 minutes. I had an excercise regiment before surgery, so I
am jsut getting back to normal. At any rate, I am worried about the
whole starvation mode thing. I don't want to deny my body nutrients
that it so desperately needs. Anyone else go through this ever?
Suggestions?

2008-03-22 14:04:12

Hi Everyone,
I promised to report back what I found out concerning results to
this "weightloss kicker upper"!!! It does work and those involved
have lost between 4 - 10 pounds each in the three day's they were on
it. Some are going to stick it out another day cause they cheated
some but it show it does work. Hope this information can help some
of you.

Hey Tricia,
I am pre-op and my date is Sept. 7th here in Anniston. I'am going
through all the emotions now but I will survive them.;-))) If you
have B/C B/S of AL it seems they go alot faster if your surgeon
submits all the paperwork needed to get approved. I had mine
approved within 3 weeks at the latest. You already have much in
place too with your other doctors. Wish you the best outcome and
the quickest approval. I lack patience to I know what you saying.
Anniston is doing pretty good for now and those "Alabama" guys just
stick to their neck of the woods in Ft. Payne. We went on
that "Worlds Longest Yardsale" 3rd year for me and drove by their
recording studio and probably their houses too! Beautiful places
around there.
Talk with you soon!

How are things going for u? Me getting anxious about getting this thing going.
I have my consultation on the 22nd, just 3 more weeks. My drs here have signed
off for me, I have set up the appts with the PT and nutritionist on the same day
as my surgeon appt. I was able to use my pulmonary and shrink drs that I all
ready see. So I am just abiding my time. I hate waiting on things and I have
been waiting since Feb for this appt. course after that I know it will be 5-6
weeks waiting on the insurance. When I had my breast reduction last yr it took
5 weeks so I hope it will be that this time.
How are things in Annistion, seen any guys from "Alabama" guys sure hated that
they retired we really liked them.
Hope u are having a good week, I can't remember if u or pre=op or post op so let

Thyroid Medications/reply

2008-03-20 00:48:03

Hi Pat, I'm hoping when the weight comes off that I can say goodbye to thyroid
problems too, they have never been able to get it under control, i have had it
since 95. i also hope for the high blood pressure and the diabetes reverse and
that i can also can come off the cpap machine I hate the thing, I have a sleep
disorder and every time I go to turn u have to sling all the stuff with u and it
wakes me up and it's 2 or 3 hrs before i can go back to sleep. This is why I
want the surgery for these health reasons, most of which i inherited. course
looking good in my clothes and feeling attractive to my hubby again is a good
incenative too.

How many calories???

2008-03-19 21:10:36

There has been a bit of talk on the board about how many calories a
person should take in and I guess it really depends on the doctor. I
can see limiting it to 600 or 700 hundred calories for the first 9
months or so but after that seems like downright starvation!!! My
dietician (required by the ins company) says after 9 months that
1,000 to 1,250 is good if you are doing any exercise, less than that
will backfire after awhile according to her. I'm wondering what
others have been told to take in after 9 months.
Thanks!

Dora,
Thanks for the prayers and good wishes. I know it will get better, but patience
is not one of my virtues..LOL I am better each and every day. I saw the doctor
yesterday for my 1 month check up. I have lost 35 lbs and that is
wonderful...he wants me to stay on soft foods and protein as I keep throwing
up.
Last night I had my worst night since surgery. It lasted for hours. I couldn't
even throw up to make myself feel better. I am afraid to eat anything
including liquids...hell of a way to lose weight don't you think???
So I am back to square one and taking it day to day....With all the great

Hello Everyone
I have not posted in a while and had a question because everything is at a
stand still. My surgary was 10/1/03 and I am getting close to my 1st birthday.
I love my new life and I have as of today lost 118 Lbs. Started at 300 and
11 months later here I am. I wa woundering if any old timers can tell me why I
have almost stopped losing. Iam 5'
6" and weigh 183 lbs I want to go to 160 or 150. EVERYONE tells me that I
look to skinny know. I fit into a size 12 some thing 10 and I am very happy
even if I stay this way, but I want to have room for error(if you know what I
mean) lol. I jog and walk fast almost 3 to 4 time a week about 2 to 3 miles.
what i do notice know that i do different is drink more coffee. Can that be a
problem??? I hope someone has answers. I would do this surgery again
tommorrow. Remember it is only a tool not a miricale, you have to work hard and
now I
really can say that it is a job but I love working at it. All of us have
come so far and gone through some much hell to get to this stage in life. Gods

Re: Protein Train-Pamela

2008-03-18 12:20:49

Pamela, I have included the previous post I sent a few day's ago.
Linda in AL
Here it is:
Laurette any others interested in the Protein Train,
This is from another WLS message board....they say this works...
This is what it is...first thing to remember is we all do it a bit
different but for the same reasons... number one is to defeat the
carb monster...aka carb cravings, ... number two is to jump start
stalled out weight loss...also there is some thought that is the
pouch is stretched it will shrink... i dunno if its true or not.
protien diets will cause you to go into ketosis (remember the
optifast diet) you loose fast but its not a really good idea to do
long term, hence 3 days is pretty common as a goal... now this is
what I do
i drink my morning coffee... yes i am a caffiene addict....
then the rest of the day i do nothing but protien shakes water
crystal light or some sugar free flavored water... the first day is
hard but the second day and third day are pretty easy to me... then
on the 4th day i start adding things like a scrambled egg with
cheese still protien but food along with my shakes... then as time
goes on i get back to a semi normal diet i never totally stop my
shakes as i totally believe in them even though my dr does not... i
will keep a daiily post of what i do that day so folks can follow
and see what happens ... i have a girl friend in ohio that is
joining me on this but she never does shakes she does just food...
so i am compairing notes on how we both do...
s interested...
She had written me about it and I copied and pasted it. Hope it
helps. I know I am keeping it for future reference.
Hugs, Linda in AL.

Don't Ask Don't Tell

2008-03-17 06:13:27

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has tried to keep
their surgery a secret from all but their most immediate family. I
am having surgery September 27 and don't want everyone to know.
Does anyone have any advice for me?
Also, my sister keeps asking me how I will handle Thanksgiving,
Christmas, and other holidays centered around food. She is
supportive of my decision to have the surgery but is worried I will
suffter some type of emotional crisis during the holidays. Is it
depressing? Do you have regrets then?
Another thing is that I keep hearing everyone talk about the
nausea. My surgeon has given me a patch to put on the night before
surgery that should even help get the magnesium citrate down plus it
will last for three days to help with the initial nausea. I also
have prescription suppositories for nausea for after I get home. I
feel that my doctor has been much more thorough in anticipating the
meds I might need than a lot of people I read about online. Please
try asking your doctor to be more proactive in prefenting the nausea.
I am learning so much from reading all of your experiences. Those
of you who talk about your weight loss, riding a bicycle for the
first time, playing more with your children - you have all been such
inspirations. I can't wait to have my own story to tell.

2 week post op appointment

2008-03-14 14:28:07

Hi everyone I just got home from my 2 week post op appointment.
Doctor said since I am doing so well I can get off of full liquids a
week early. So as soon as I got home I made me 2 soft scrambled
eggs. I definately think my eyes are bigger then my stomach, cause I
was lucky to eat a 1/2 of a eggs worth.. But it was so good to
finally chew something. According to their scales I have lost 20. By
my scales I have lost 23, so I go by my scales :)
The pain I am having to the right of my incision, I guess is a
pulled muscle. thats what the doc said. Nothing to worry about.
I am feeling better everyday!!

2008-03-14 07:39:03

I saw a truck today that had all these beverages on the back of it. I went on
their website and they have a couple that they call slenderize. They have 5 or
10 calories for 8 oz and come in Tropical Punch, Cranberry Apple and Cranberry
Raspberry. They have 100% Vitamin C, Chromium 15% which it says boosts energy,
L-Canitine 20 mg which it says is an amino acid which boosts energy and Citrimax
200mg which suppress appetite, reduces the conversion of carbs & promotes weight
loss. They sound tasty and look like they might be good for us other than maybe
the Citrimax. Just wondering if anyone has had them and how do they taste?

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Wait Time

Hi Kristy,
With me it took about a little over two months to get my insurance approvals
(being that they will cover the surgery and then that they will actually pay
for it)....that was two processes. After my consultation with my my surgery
was about 6 weeks later. In my case though I lost that surgeon due to
malpractice insurance. That ended up being a blessing!!!!! Once I got my new
surgeon,
had my consultation with him, pretesting was one week later and then surgery
was two weeks after that. I didn't think the waiting time for me was bad at
all. The initial insurance approvals were made through the Thanksgiving and
Christmas holidays so I thought I made at real good.
Lots of luck to you and keep us posted.

2008-03-11 22:38:58

okay everyone here we go I thought it sounded gross yesterday and
tried it today. maybe someone else would like to try it also I was
acually pretty good.
you take two eggs even though you want eat it all
you take about a half cup of shredded cheese your choice
you take about a teaspoon and half of peanutbutter.
salt and pepper
and mix it all together and make scrambled eggs. its like eating
peanutbutter toast and eggs with out the bread for those of use that
cant have bread.

Have you all seen the little Bear figures at Walmart that are each
in a different military uniform...they are $3.74. I think they call
them "Buddy's something"...dang I bought one and sent if off to my
son already...its that old age thing happening. Either way, they
are in the toy section and they are so cute.

think all 5 of them are wonderful and I am thankful everyday that we
have these men and women to protect us. I cannot watch CMT without
crying watching "Letters from Home" and my dad bought Lonestars CD
on it and it has a tribute to the military on it. I cannot listen to
it and drive because the opening "talk" is "my husband is in Iraq

came home with my boy and we are going to celebrate with hubby!!

MILITARY WIVES OUT THERE?

2008-03-04 05:13:01

I just noticed that there is alot of chatter on here with military
wives. I am an "Air Force Wife". Do you think we are all on a
group like this because the military offers little or no after the
surgery help? I had the surgery in Arizone but we are stationed in
Las Vegas, six hours away. If I ever have a question or concern and
call my doc (it has only happened about three times since surgery)
they tell me to "come right in". That's not really an option!
hahah! This group has been phenomenal because it constantly
reassures me that all the little aches and pains are normal. I
looked in the mirror today at the gym and felt "smaller" for the
first time since surgery. Odd feeling. ANyone else ever have that?
My family and friends are "freaking out" so to speak when they see
me telling me I look totally different, that is wierd to. My
friend's husband informed me I was "hot" and I got really self
conscious. I mean, I am almost 5'11" and started at about 259 and
am now 216 about 6 weeks out. I do look different and I feel so
much better. I am normally outgoing, but this lost weight makes me
a little less so outgoing. Anyone else out there going or been
through that and has advice or experience? Excited to see the
fellow military spouses!

Insurance companies

2008-03-04 01:40:39

Hello group. I just wanted to find out if anyone had experienced the same type
of problem with their insurance company that I just did. I went for a
consultation with a surgeon two weeks ago. Before the consultation I called my
insurance company and asked if there was coverage for morbid obesity. They said
that my plan did include coverage for that. I went to the Barix clinic in
Groveport Oh. The consultation went great. I was definately a candidate. I
have my psych eval, a stress test, a sleep study and a visit to a cardiologist
all scheduled. These were the things the surgeon wanted me to do in order to
have the surgery. I was excited. Finally I had a possible answer. Something
that could help me. The clinic tried to gain authorization and was told I had a
$500 LIFETIME maximum for obesity treatment and that included surgery!!!!!! I
don't know which way to turn now. I had hope for the first time in so long and
now I just feel defeated. Does anyone have any ideas?
