I have used these sites:
www.bariatriceating.com
www.vitanet.com
What are you looking for? I was looking for the Extreme Smoothie
protein drinks 160 calories, 35 gr protein so I Googled the name -
Extreme Smoothie protein drink - found a lot of sites and ordered from
the least expensive. The prices change all the time and I found you
can trust bariatric eating if they say the stuff tastes good it does,
but they are not always the cheapest.
I am having a hard time swallowing pills my opening is still very
swollen so I thought I would look at viactiv for calcium but would
have to eat 5 a day for a total of 100 calories so I Googled
(www.google.com) chewable calcium and found vanilla malted milk
calcium balls - 5 calories and 1000mg calcium each so I will only have
to eat two and they were cheaper than viactive by a long shot. I just
ordered them so I wil have to let know if it was a good choice. But I
live by google.
I work for a software company and we even google our own knowledge
base cause it has a better search engine :-)

Hello everyone this is hard for me so I'll post and see if anyone has ideas

2008-05-31 11:32:21

Okay, Hi everyone I am Bobbi. I had open gastric bypass surgery
December 7, 1998 and I was 460lbs. I was doing wonderful! By
December of 2000 I had lost 200 lbs down to 260. I slowly started
losing less and less but was still losing. My doctor teased me and
was horrible to me telling me I didnt want to try anymore. I was and
am an emotional eater and that hurt so bad I tried to commit
suicide. Two very dear friends happened to drop by that night and
found me and saved my life. Then my long distance boyfriend who knew
me before the surgery and then after decided to move in with me all
the way from louisiana to Idaho. He moved in with me April of 2002.
Since he moved in with me though I have been totally eating all the
wrong things at all the wrong times of day and in April I was 202 lbs
now I am 295lbs again! I have turned to food to solve my problems
again and I am so desperate to get back on track. I need so much
help and cant turn to my doctor anymore. His nurse tries to call me
because she thought he was out of line and she still believes I am a
good person with good intentions and I really am. I dont want to
creep back up to the 460lbs and I was down to a size 14 and now I am
back to a size 20/22. Please someone lead me in the right
direction. When I had the surgery he even sliced me open pretty big
and then when I got out of the hospital he didnt schedule a visit
with me for three months and no nutritionist no help with my meal
plans nothing! I did well my first month lost 50lbs eating tuna and
cottage cheese every meal 5 little meals of a little less than two
ounces. Now I eat WAY bigger portions than I know I should and I am
so desperate. My boyfriend (now fiance) went back home for a month
to work in place of his mom while she has surgery on her wrists so he
is gone right now and I am alone and having those thoughts of ending
it all. He wants to get married in March and a few days ago I
thought it would be fun to try to find a wedding dress I could set a
goal for and the lady in the store came up to me and said "we only
carry sizes up to a 16" before I had a chance to even look. I was
hoping to find something to set a goal for and a size 16 was a pretty
good goal anyway but I ran out of the store to my car and sobbed.
Can someone please help me get back on track. Even my family and I
arent talking over the last year since I have been gaining weight
they all call me a failure. Thanks for listening.

Carb Countdown New Product?

2008-05-31 00:25:12

I know that most of us have discussed carb countdown milk, chocolate
milk, and yogurt. I wanted to let everyone know that they also make
juices. I saw them for the first time last night. I think they had
orange, orange pineapple, and orange pineapple banana. I bought the
orange kind and I think it tastes like Tang or Sunny D. Just
thought I would let you all know, especially the juice lovers that
might think they can never have fruit juice again (without diluting
it like my doc suggests). you can only deal with watery juice for so
long.

Patty, Maybe not being excited is good, at least you are calm and
maybe able to sleep better than being excited and not being able to
concentrate. I know it is tough when you have something set in your
mind but it will be better with your husband home to help you, the
first week is not as easy as I thought it would be. No pain, just

Linda Lou <iamllu@...
say the same, stupid me
jumped on the scale and had to chuckle...2 lbs less than I was when
I got home on Thursday which was also the weight I was at prior to
leaving for the hospital. I know I am not suppose to jump right on
them but I had too just to see...curiousity killed the cat!!!! I am
sure most of the IV was still in my system and glad I stopped it the
second day. After my check up on the 17th I hope to find out what's
next for my diet. I can already have strand cream soups too but man
an egg...that sounds sooooo goooooood right now. I am sure my
mashed potato's are only for this two weeks and then I wont use them
unless I need too..2 tablespoons can't do too much harm...or I hope
not. Well I need to beautify myself before my dear husband returns
from work at noon. Take care!

Re: didnt expect this!

2008-05-30 02:15:59

The insurance companies don't want to pay for this because of the cost
and nothing else. Say you are in your 30's and morbidly obese and
lets estimate the cost of the surgery at $40,000. Well the insurance
company already has a clause excluding any kind of diets for weight so
they won't be paying for your 6 months supervised diets and the odds
are your might have a bit of high blood pressure and maybe even the
beginning of diabetes, but the medical costs of those are not high at
the moment and on average before those two conditions worsen you will
be in another job with another insurance company who still won't pay
for diets and is paying maintenance on your co morbities cause that is
all they will do is pay maintenance and it takes a lot of office
visits and mediciation to exceed the cost of the surgery.
Now a few more years pass and you are disabled, maybe even have had a
stroke or other issues and you move from the private insurance realm
to medicare or medicaid, guess what, medicare pays for the surgery
after one phone call from the doctor and while you now have long term
disabilities you can get the surgery and you will still need it but
you have a whole lot more side issues that could have been avoided if
there were laws in place to force the private insurance companies to
cover this surgery when you were only really just obese.
The insurance companies have fought a lot of these issues and finally
had to cover them. Since I have been working I have seen the
government force insurance companies to cover pregnancy (they didn't
used to, kind a like it was your fault you know), substance abuse and
mental illness. Lets hope since obesity is now a disease the ball
will begin to roll in favor of this surgery.

Kim,
Then I don't feel so bad if your diet was similiar...LOL! I didn't
get any pops in the hospital but had bought some for home. Its not
on my diet but...I'm doing them anyway. Not often just one last
night. I've been ready old post and really sorry what you are going
through right now. I had pray'd before when you spoke of your
husband and feel like I need to do this again. I agree about
bringing them home too soon after a incident but Kim, we love these
men and sometimes we put aside what should be done to do what we
want done. I've caught my husband chatting with an old girlfriend.
I am letting him know it and if our marriage fells from my doing so
then I feel God didn't want us to last. I just have always felt
like you have to be upfront and honest about it all. Otherwise they
feel like they can get away with it all the time. Now in this email
I found from him to her...it was disturbing but he did state "I love
my wife and would never cheat on her". I know those words are just
that "words" but at least he said them. Well sorry if I am digging
up something over and done with but I just wanted to put in my .02.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] didnt expect this!

2008-05-29 15:31:21

I had to go through a cardiac evaluation (which involved running on a
treadmill) and TWO psychiatric evaluations. My insurance didn't require 6
months of supervised dieting. They did require my complete medical history
though. I guess there was enough in there to convince them. There are many
hoops to jump through to get this surgery. It's been said over and over that
it's not a "magic wand" it's a tool. And you have to work hard to get this
tool, because the insurance companies do not want to pay for someone to have
surgery and then fail themselves. The hoops are a way of making sure you
understand what you are getting into and making sure that you will be
compliant with the rules that go along with your new tool.

2008-05-29 04:32:39

Hi everyone, just wanted to say yesterday was my consultation with
the surgeon and I am appauled at what getting this surgery includes.
Even the doctor was saying that the insurance laws are to discourage
people and I think thats really sad. But a 6 month physician
supervised diet plan?? I have weight watchers for the last 9 months,
Lucielle Roberts debit from my account and weigh in's there! but
that dont count! but oh well the way i look at it, I have to go for
3 months and then they schedule the surgery. with christmas right
around the corner and my family coming to NY from California and
Hawaii being the first time i have seen my 2 sis and mom and nieces
and nephews since my father died 3 yrs ago, I am taking it lighter
than if they werent coming, I figure time will fly! But March 05
sounds SO far away......seems like the waiting game is just a big
waste of time and with my colesteral over 300 and blood pressure of
190/120- i dont have a stroke! I am currently on diavan and lipitor
to get the #'s down but yesterday it was 170/110 and i have been on
the diavan for 2 months.
did everyone have to go thru this?

Hey Vicki,
You have done two GOOD things. First, you've lost over 200 pounds in just over
a year. That is fantastic! The second good thing you've done is realize that
you might be losing control and getting off track. What we've all been told a
million times is get back to basics when that happens. You need to relearn how
to use your "tool" that the surgery has given us. PLEASE reread the file in
this groups home page on "Pouch Rules" or go back through the messages and
you'll see that I posted a link to pouch rules earlier today. What happens is
that the pouch/stomach is a muscle that can be stretched out if you overdo it
and eat too much. Even the little pouches that we were given can expand and
make us feel hungry more often. By following the pouch rules and focusing on
protein you can get back on track and not be hungry all the time. Please go
read the pouch rules now and have patience with yourself. It might not be easy
to get back on track but its worth the effort. Keep us
posted and hang in there!

are you using? My Doc has me on SF Instant Carnation Breakfast but
I plan on whiching after my appt on the 17th. He just asked me to
please follow this until then. Had my first popsicle last night and

Dora,
I have to jump on this (unless I already did in me loritab induced
world) about what you wrote. Being just through it I can say it was
just the same with me. For weeks I laid in bed wondering if this
was what I needed to do. Heard all those who put me down or others
for even considering it. Now I had almost gone through is in 2002
but lost my Ins. and move/married so I just waited and learned
more. Its not like we went to the store and bought this surgery, we
definitely needed it for our health because nothing else was
working. So what I lost 30lbs this past year, don't know how I did
it except to bring in some fosterkids but I was still unhealthy and
the weight was starting to fluctuate again. Your similiaries were
right on with society and how things work. I just hope you are
finding each day a sort of celebration to a new and improved life
and when it gets here you've done it right...and for the right
reasons. I praise God daily for giving me this opportunity to
lengthen my life, give me time to enjoy other's and to hopefully
help those who are preparing like we are. Hope I got it all in
cause I am at the end of this and ... wondering...or
wandering...LOL!

Alana <lanagurrl3@...
through my gut
Not a morsel was stirring, not even a nut.
The suitcase was packed by the back door with care,
In hopes that a new me would soon return there.
I lay nestled snug in my bed
While visions of calories danced in my head;
And me in my plus-size pajamas and wrap,
Had just settled in for a long, restless nap.
When deep in my mind there arose such a clatter!
I sprang from my dreams to see what was the matter.
Away to my fridge I flew like a flash,
Ripped open the door and drooled at the stash.
The moonlight reflecting off the beautiful snacks,
Gave a luster of radiance to all on the racks.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But an array of the comfort foods I hold so dear!
With a familiar feeling of all those I'd pick,
I thought in a moment I just might be sick.
More lovely than angels their voices they came,
And they whistled and shouted and called me by name;
"Now pizza, now French fries, now chocolate galore,
on cheesecake, on ice cream, on donuts and more!"
From the tip of my tongue, to the bottom of my toe,
I will miss you all more than you'll ever know.
As a addict that shakes and stirs as he sits,
I'll mourn the loss of my delectable hits.
So back to my bed I went with great haste,
And settled back down with nary a taste.
And then in an instant, in pre-op I sat,
Nervously waiting to no longer be fat.
As I sat deep in thought and adjusted my gown,
In came my surgeon in one single bound.
He was dressed all in scrubs
From his head to his feet
And he seemed very calm as he eyed me, like meat.
He looked at my chart, with his scope gave a listen
I don't think he noticed my eyes start to glisten.
He was chubby and plump He could lose some himself.
And I laughed when I saw him in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know, I had nothing to dread
He spoke barely a word as he prepped for his work,
He paused for a moment, then turned with a jerk.
And laying a finger aside of his face,
And giving a nod, Out of the room he did race.
He checked in the next day, to his students Gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like a down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim as he walked out of sight,
"Speedy thinness to you and a healthier life!"

I feel the same as you guys do. Some in my local support group eat regular
ice cream and don't dump. They even eat donuts and sweets. My surgeon and
staff said NO sugar, fried foods and the like. Only being 4-1/2 months out the
thought of eating such things gives me this idea that I will end up in the
hospital or with a real dumping and I want no part of any of that. So, so far
I've been able to refrain from such foods and haven't even had a graving for
them. I really hope these thoughts of mine continue to stay with me. I figure
those fried foods and donuts and such is what got me into the mess I was in. I
don't want to no way, no how go back there. Of course just my opinions here,
everyone needs to use their own judgment.

I have to chime in here about the easy way out thing..... I have absolutley
no problem with hearing that, and I have said it myself many times. I came
to a point where if felt that I had exhausted all of my options and had
learned enough about myself to know that there was no way short of surgery
that I was ever going to see my 45th b-day.
I essentially "gave up' and placed myself in the hands of my GP and surgeon
to giude me through the process. If you had told me before I began
contemplating the surgery that I would be sitting here today 138 lbs lighter
I would have laughed outright.
I let go of that feeling that I hadn't tried hard enough to

If your doctor says its okay than go ahead and try but be sure to CHEW IT UP
GOOD. I found chicken and breads were harder than other things to swallow
after my surgery. They really need to be chewed extra good, maybe because of
their texture. So if you have a thumbs up from the dr or nutrionist than go for

Re: Relationship trouble AFTER WLS

2008-05-22 19:00:19

Ok - I HAVE to put my two cents in on this one. My now ex boyfriend
told me when I announced that I was having the surgery, that he
didn't want me to have it, because I would lose weight and leave
him. Well, I had the surgery, and I've lost weight (104 pounds in
20 weeks - still going strong thank you very much) and yes I broke
up with him. Was it because I was getting smaller? Was it because
I could now hook up with a 'hotter' guy?
NO - it was because he couldn't handle my new confidence, my new
attitude toward life - the fact that I wasn't willing to settle any
more. I wanted more out of a relationship - and if he wasn't
willing to make some changes, then so be it. Our relationship had
been doing downhill for a while, to be honest, and I think I was
staying in it because it was easier than dealing with it or starting
over.
It's been a few months now, I do have guys interested in me, that
before the surgery probably wouldn't have been, but I don't know
that for sure. I know that my newfound confidence is a big part of
my 'appeal' now. There are very few people who want to be around
someone who is insecure and/or lacks self confidence and self esteem.
Well that's just my two cents - and I just love to let folks know
what I think, lol.

Easy way out - NOT!

2008-05-22 06:35:41

Hi Dora,
I have been told that several times too "that wls is the easy way out". Man, I
wanted to bash this one woman I know in the face after she said that. She even
made a comment that because of wls I was "buying my new figure". She's a
coworker of my husband so I had to "nicely" explain to her that wls is just a
tool and the real work comes AFTER the surgery when we learn to change our
eating habits. Here's the thing: If we don't WORK TO CHANGE OUR EATING HABITS
then we will regain the weight. So this is not the easy way out. Also, this
surgery is only covered by ins for people that need it, people that typically
have health problems! So we're not comparing apples and oranges here. (The
woman that told me I was taking the easy way out is thin as a stick-probably
never been an ounce overweight in her life . . . but she knows it all . . . )
Sorry to ramble this morning, I need coffee. LOL
Bridget
Dora McCary <dora.mccary@...
As I lay awake in bed last night I got to thinking about this surgery.
What else am I going to possibly think about right now right? But I got
to thinking about what many people say to us.... That this surgery is
the "easy way out". We all know that statement is totally insane and
that we are going to have to work our butts off to get the proper amount
of protein in, exercise, ect... And people try to use that against us
as an argument for us to not have this surgery.
And I started thinking, so what. Don't we always take the "easy way
out" if we can. These same people who are saying that like it is wrong
take the easy way out. We use frozen dinners instead of cooking, we eat
out instead of cooking, we use clothes washers instead of a wash board,
we have cars that take us where we want instead of walking everywhere.
As you can imagine I could fill this page with examples of how society
takes the "easy way out" everyday and we love it and don't see anything
wrong with it. But let one fat person say that they are going to have
this surgery and all of a sudden the "easy way out" becomes a bad thing.
To me, this makes the whole "easy way out" argument comical. The next
time somone says that to me I am going to tell them well, it isn't but I
sure wish it was.
Just my thoughts.

That is the best take on the "easy way out" discussion I have heard yet. Such
positive thinking Dora! I, fotunately, have not had a lot of the "easy way out"
comments. All my friends, family and co-workers have been 110% supportive and
they see me every day or a few times a week and know it has not been the "easy
way out". They all say I'm brave, but I don't feel brave, it's just what I had
to do to live a long healthy life!

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Relationship trouble AFTER WLS

2008-05-21 16:34:21

I think it is also an issue with many men because they are insecure. My
husband keeps saying that I am going to run off on him and find someone
else. I keep assuring him that he loves me fat or thin and why would I
want someone after I get thin that would not want me now? But it was
funny, a guy that I work with told me that his wife had the same surgery
and has already lost 70 something pounds. And then he said oh she will
probably run off and leave me soon. I really think they are just as
insecure as most women they just don't want to admit it.
But I can see how this operation will make a marriage stronger or it
will break it to pieces.

How to do the protein train

2008-05-21 14:53:12

This is copied and posted from a previous message...
This is what it is...first thing to remember is we all do it a bit
different but for the same reasons... number one is to defeat the
carb monster...aka carb cravings, ... number two is to jump start
stalled out weight loss...also there is some thought that is the
pouch is stretched it will shrink... i dunno if its true or not.
protien diets will cause you to go into ketosis (remember the
optifast diet) you loose fast but its not a really good idea to do
long term, hence 3 days is pretty common as a goal... now this is
what I do
i drink my morning coffee... yes i am a caffiene addict....
then the rest of the day i do nothing but protien shakes water
crystal light or some sugar free flavored water... the first day is
hard but the second day and third day are pretty easy to me... then
on the 4th day i start adding things like a scrambled egg with
cheese still protien but food along with my shakes... then as time
goes on i get back to a semi normal diet i never totally stop my
shakes as i totally believe in them even though my dr does not... i
will keep a daiily post of what i do that day so folks can follow
and see what happens ... i have a girl friend in ohio that is
joining me on this but she never does shakes she does just food...
so i am compairing notes on how we both do...
s interested...

Relationship trouble AFTER WLS

2008-05-21 12:48:34

I went to the support group meeting at the hospital and its for
anyone that is interested in wls or already has had wls. It seems
like most of the people there are postop from a few weeks out to
almost two years and last night a woman thats been going there for
months told us all that she is getting a divorce. I felt bad right
away and everyone kept telling her they were sorry and she
said, "don't feel sorry for me---I'm the one that filed!" She
complained about how her husband has been treating her sooooo
different since she lost the weight, about 100 pounds out he started
noticing her again she said. and then she said all he seemed
interested in was sex, not really her. She said she wants love not
lust, and she said she could tell she was just an object to him. I
felt so sorry for her but what guts to get rid of him! Someone said
after the meeting that divorce or separation is common after wls when
someone loses weight things can change. The woman said if you love
me you should love me for better or worse, thin or fat...
I'm still reeling from the meeting.

Hey Nora. I did the protein train and I used the nectar ones. But if
you like the Adkins ones, I don't see any reason why you can't use
them. If they have a lot of calories or something, just think that
is the only thing you will be having 3 times a day for three days.
So I am sure they wouldn't matter. Good luck!

Hi Alana,
My surgeon has his patients do a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. Some of the
reasons being that protein before surgery will assist your body during recovery
and
he wants your liver to shrink since that is the area where he will be
working. Some of us have fatty/enlarged livers from years of being obese. From
what
I've read most surgeons have their patients only do this for 1 or 2 days before
surgery.

I have heard of folks that have been put a liquid diet 1 - 2 weeks
before the surgery. Our surgeon broke my husband's heart for his
"last meal" the night before the surgery by telling him to eat no fat
and very lightly. He suggested pasta with marinara sauce, I only had
a protein bar as my surgery was 3 weeks after my husbands and I wasn't
interested in pasta or going out to eat cause I knew the answer.
However in the 3 weeks before I went to KFC 3 times cause I hadn't
been in years and for some reason decided I had to have it. Go figure.

Hey Bridget. I did the protein train over the Labor Day wekend and I
had no problem. I did three shakes a day and treated myself to a
little sugarfree pudding before bed. I lost 7 pounds in the three
days and another 2 since Tuesday. I am almost to 260 and for three
weeks, I was stuck at 269. So I would definately recommend it. I
didn't have any problems and now that I have added the food back in,
I wish I would stay on protein shakes. It seems to get harder and

Hello Amber,
That is wonderful that your husband is so supportive of you having the surgery
(alot of us have not had that kind of support). You said that your husbands
insurance won't cover the surgery. Have you checked into switching insurance
companies? Some cover gastric surgery and others don't. The other thing to
look into is payment plans (especially since you said your husband has a great
job). I know some people have went to the Wish Center and other surgery centers
and been able to work out payment plans.
I'd start checking into that also if I was you. Hang in there and good luck!

I remember when I had to give my diet history it was a matter of me telling

dates or weights but I estimated and thankfully it worked. I wish you lots of

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Correct me if I am wrong

Hi Jenn,
You've done a fantastic job on your weight loss. Maybe that person was just
encouraging her/him self in that what they have lost isn't anything to sneeze
at. I know I have to do that to myself all the time. I'm 4-1/2 months out
and only lost 58 since surgery. But darn it that's 58 lbs lost forever and i'm
darn proud of it too, just as you are in losing 100 lbs. We all lose at
different paces and that doesn't make any of us wrong or not doing things right.
I'M PROUD OF ALL OF OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS!!!!! Just my opinions. Take care all

Correct me if I am wrong

2008-05-13 17:34:13

Hello Family,
I was wondering if anyone could clear something up for me. Is this
site for us to post or problems AND our ACCOMPLISHMENTS, or is it
not? I ask because there was a post that upset me. I posted a few
days ago on my 100 pound goal in 3 1/2 months. This is a goal I am
DAMN proud of and thought that my gastric bypass family would be
proud to. I was not trying to gloat or anything of that nature. I am
just proud. A message was posted after my post. I will not say who
posted it, as that is not important. What bothered me about the post
was at the end, it read..."I would rather lose slow so I can tone my
skin than to lose 100 pounds in 3 1/2 months and have a bunch of
sagging, loose skin." Now maybe I took it the wrong way, but it made
me feel like this person was putting me down on my accomplishment.
We are not all going to lose the same way and in the same amount of
time. We are all DIFFERENT. Isn't the purpose of this online support
group to support each other rather than rain on someones parade.
Sorry to go on, but this has been bothering me and I just had to say
my piece. Thanks for listening.

Re: Aetnas Insurance

2008-05-13 11:25:53

I did not have exactly 6 months of a weight program with my doctor.
I did lose weight on a diabetic diet, but it was not a weight loss
diet. My surgeon and my PCP both worded their letters in that I had
lost weight in the past, but I had realized by myself years ago that
yo yo dieting was more damaging to my health than carrying extra
weight and as I had maintained a large amount of my weight loss from
the diabetic diet I was able to understand and accept the
restrictions of a diet after surgery.
You have to work with your doctors so they will spin the truth the
direction in your favor.

anybody. LOTS has been going on with me lately!!! I've had my
psych eval and my sleep study. I'm going today to see my
nutritionist for the 2nd time. On top of all this, my husband has
been in the hospital. The pyschologist confirmed that I'm crazy and
I rated about a C on my sleep study, according to the techs.
lol...they told me not to be surprised if they have me back for a
CPAP. I go back next week to see that dr. Right now it's kinda
slow, but I know things are going to start REALLY happening!! Keep
me in your prayers!!

I have Aetna HMO. I just followed everything that they required and
they had no choice but to approve. Go online to www.aetna.com and look
up their policy for obesity surgery. It is policy #159 or 157, but I
think 159. It will spell everything out in black and white as to what
you need to do. It is possible, just stay on them. I would be happy to
answe any other questions you might have.

Mary,
Congratulations on your weight loss and your pregnancy. My surgeon said we
were to wait 18 months so your not far off. There have been several cases of
people getting pregnant being only a few months out. So don't be hard on
yourself. Your going to do great and be a great mother!!!!! Take care and God

Mari,
Congrats on your weight loss but sorry to hear your having such trouble.
Where are you located? Are you taking your necessary vitamins and minerals? I
used to have severe pains in my lower stomach before surgery, I had IBS
Irretiable Bowel Syndrome. Have you been tested for that? I will keep you in
my
prayers and maybe someone here can lead you to a good specialist. Take care and

pregnancy after bypass

2008-05-10 13:24:22

First let me apologize for using my boyfriend's screen name, I don't
have much time for computers so I never created my own name.
I am in need of a little information and I was wondering if anyone
here has found themselves in my situation.
I am 17 months post op, and about 6 weeks pregnant, I know this is
going to get me a few posts about responsibility, but accidents do
happen, and this is one of them, I got careless, what can I say.
I am hoping that among those posts, there might be one from someone
who has found themselves in the same situation and is willing to
share their experiences, it would be even greater if this person is
from Miami and could recommend an OBGYN who is somewhat familiar with
the bypass surgery. I plan on calling the doctor that did my bypass
to see if he recommends anyone, but it would be nice to find one that
a mom to be or new mom has been or is familiar with and likes.
From the bypass I am at my goal already, my problem as I see it with
the pregnancy now is that I am still having a hard time eating much
meat or very solid foods, if I eat meat or poultry at any meal, that
is my last meal of the day because it sits in my pouch all day long
and takes forever to get rid of the full feeling, so I'm worried
about proper nutrition for the baby.
So please, if anyone can offer some helpful information I would be
much thankful to them.
Mary

did.

Re: Aetna Insurance

My company has Aetna PPO insurance and specifically includes bariatric
surgery if cause is shown. It took about 3 months to jump through
their hoops and get approved. They approved both my husband and me on
5/19 he had his surgery 7/12 and I had it 8/3.
Now for the bad news, Aetna paid all my husbands bills, but have
rejected mine as they say I didn't get preapproval, when I call with
the approval number they said oops guess we did approve it, but they
are still rejecting the surgeons bill and paying everything else. I
am going to have a bit of a battle on my hands, but they WILL pay it
by gawd.

Nora,
Don't be so hard on yourself!!! 99 pounds is still great and you're
right-everyone is different. The great thing is that you've taken off 99 pounds
and KEPT IT OFF! My nutrionist reminds me all the time that not gaining is
progress so have faith that you are accomplishing something. Have you talked to
your surgeon or nutrionist about your progress recently? Your 1 year appt
should be coming up soon. Also, has your weightloss been steady (even though
its not as much as you want) or have you went a long time now without any loss?
Maybe you need to jumpstart your weightloss with more protein, different type of
exercise, etc.
Keep us posted and hang in there!

foods from now on. I still eat whatever I want only teeny tiny
amounts. I still go out for dinner once in a while but instead of
gorging myself on steak I have leftovers to bring home. I will tell
the waiter I'm going to need a doggie bag before I even start
eating. What a wonderful change this is for me compared to a year

Re: Have a couple of questions

I am 5'3" and I think they have resized the sizes, sounds good to me
I would love to be a size or two smaller than I was in high school
and weigh more.
I have asked the doctor and his nurses and reread the information and
the information says to consume between 400 and 500 calories, but eat
only 4 1oz or 20cc cups of pureed protein a day. But it said to
include drinks in the calories so I am going to add a 90 calorie
protein drink every day until I see him on Monday with my long list
of questions that will be answered before I leave :-)
Thanks for you reply

And boy am I nervous. I am already beginning to not be able to sleep at
night. I lay down and start thinking about going in the hospital. I
did all of my pre-admission lab work yesterday. So it looks like I am
good to go. Just counting the days down now. Oh, and one good thing.
I have been eating anything and everything I want because I know this
will soon come to a halt. And believe it or not, I have not gained a
single pound. How good is that?
When I got my surgery date it was 44 days out. Where does the time go?
I am trying to get my computer hooked up at home because I don't want to
be without you guys after my surgery. I rely on you guys a lot and know
I will need you even more after my surgery. Pray for me. The more

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Have a couple of questions

2008-05-05 07:00:18

The best bet on that is ask your doctor. Each Doctor is different. Mine sent me
home with a 20cc cup and said this is what your suppose to eat three times a
day. My protien that I used was something you could put in the water, crystal
light or sugar free koolade. So it counted towards my protien but not the
calories. (I didnt have much choice on shakes then but now I do)
As for the clothes. Things have changed in my eyes anyways. In High school I was
115 and was about a 7 I didnt have the loose skin or anything then. Now I am at
112 and can wear a 4 and xs shirts. Or if I buy from the gap or Old Navy I can
wear 2's. And I have the loose skin still. I dont know if I helped sorry If I
didnt. Oh and I am 5'2 if that helps cause I know if your taller things are
different.

I had an Open RNY 8/3/2004 and am 2 weeks into 3 weeks of pureed food.
My doctor's nurse said the more protein I get down the faster I will
lose the weight, but the paper they gave me says to eat just 4-1oz
cups of protein per day. Which means that if I eat cottage cheese
which has the most protein I get a whole 12 grams of protein per day.
And they specifically said to eat different kinds of protein which
would make that slightly less.
Does anyone know what they are talking about. Should I drink a
protein drink and not count it as a meal, but it does add calories
which I am not suppose to increase at this time. When I ask I don't
get a lot of answers I am going to the doctor for my 6 week check up
next Monday and I AM GOING to take a list of questions that will be
answered before I leave but I am confused as all get out right now.
Another question. When I graduated from high school I weighed 115
pounds and wore a size 5 to 7 depending on the manufacturer. When I
began to put on weight in my mid 20's and I reached 140 pounds I was
wearing a size 14 - 150 pounds it was a size 16. Have they
drastically changed the sizing for clothes in the past 25 years or so.
I remember in 1969 when they sized down all misses so if you
previously wore a size 16 you now would wear a size 14. I hope so I
like the idea of wearing a size 8 again with out getting down to 115
pounds.
