Kristy,
My husband was here when the last one went through and it was a
lesser category as Ivan...said it defistated Anniston/Oxford area
and electriciy was out for day's. So he's out looking to
borrow/rent cheap a generator...so far no luck. Money is alittle
light in our pockets after the hospital co-pay. I don't want to
leave our home but may have to if it gets really bad...we live in a
doublewide on several acres amongst hills which I would think helps
some for protection. I hate not being able to help with picking up
and preparing since most weigh's more than a milk jug...LOL!!!
Big hugs, Linda in Al.

I wish you would have just gone "no mail" and checked in so often

help too. That is why I am "no mail" and just visit the sites to

I joined two other groups yesterday. I have been getting their emails

don't seem like the family that you are. I am taken myself off those
and am just going to stay with you guys. Nothing against those groups,
but you guys are the best!!! Thanks for putting up with me.

i miss fried foods---Denise

2008-06-29 18:46:27

Hi Alana: I really feel that some in a very small quantity is not bad but I
stick to chicken breast files, and chicken fingers. I am 2 years out and have
lost almost 200 lbs. I am still in the 300's but I started out at 516 lbs. I
know my answer is't what everyone should do but for me it was ok.I always get
those that do not have skin on them.I too have a hard time staying away from all
fried foods but I am doing pretty well.I feel it is a choice rather than an
absolute no no. Amy I hope this helps you. Please write me if you would like.I
would like to talk to you.
Sheryl Miller
Alana <lanagurrl3@...
Agreed Amy. Should have been over and done with before all this
bickering began, but I understand.. You weren't saying you did
anything about ur craving for fried foods, just asking a question.
Which everyone does in this group. So, don't take what others say to
heart.. (but that was a bit mean..)

Re: Introduction--June

2008-06-29 16:35:46

Welcome Lynn! You will find this group very informative and
friendly. I am alot like you with not having much wrong except
being overweight and having asthma. I do have joint pain, back pain
and honestly my surgeon included past family history as my current
problems too which included diabetes and hypertension. Together all
of this brought me to my surgery 9/7 and I am 8 day's out now. Hope
you find this a nice rollercoaster ride cause its got its ups and
downs but the ending is spectacular.

Re: Does anyone chew ice now?

2008-06-29 12:06:07

I love chewing ice and have done so since a little kid. I was also
advised in another group that a desire to chew is also possibly be a
lack Iron because of a woman having the desire to crunch on
something.

Hi Holly,
Congratulations on your wonderful weight loss. You've done a great job and
can't wait til I can say I'm almost to goal. As far as ice chewing, I have a
friend who is 3 years out from surgery and she chews ice constantly. I've
known her to go through a bag of ice a day at times. I don't think there's
anything wrong with it. I too love chewing on ice, have since I was a little

Does anyone chew ice now?

2008-06-28 00:41:09

Hi Everyone...I have only posted on here once, but have been reading
the posts for almost a year now. I had my surgery on October 3rd,
2003, and have lost almost 90 pounds and am almost to my goal, so I
am happy with that. I have a bizarre question....I am addicted to
chewing ice now. I have always liked ice, but now it's almost an
obsession...I am constantly chewing ice. Has anyone else
experienced this, or am I just being strange on my own! I'd
appreciate your input.
Thanks,
Holly

I don't know, but I have always watched the programs with very little

I just had my testing this last Tuesday. All they did for me was check

And took blood. That was it. Nothing to worry about.

Re: had a bad evening

The same thing happened when I first tried scrambled eggs and cannot
tolerate them any longer and they were my favorite breakfast. Felt
like lead for hours and I maybe ate 1/2 tsp of them. Try chopping
the chicken very finely and I was warned from overcooking my protein
as it gets very tough and hard to digest. Maybe next time cut the
breast in thin strips that cook quickly and then chop finely.

Todays Doctor appt. shed some light

2008-06-20 01:53:54

I just came back from the clinic. He told me after running more
tests (i am a human pin cushion at the lab) I have the opposite of
dumping syndrome. My body will only tolorate simple sugars. (ie
sugarfree popcycles, jello, anything sweet) I can not eat protein or
fats or vegitables or starch or condensed carbs. I cannot drink milk
products etc... Everything but sugar puts me into pain. Now the
problem comes in finding me a diet that I can tolorate. I have to
see the nutritionist again to help me come up with something to
replace all my nutrients without milk and something that contains
sugar. I would never of dreamed being told is all I can eat is
sugar. I weighed in at 145 today which is not good because I was 150
three days ago. I am losing to much too close to my limit. I am 5'6
and my weight for height is 125-149. I am no longer in the
overweight section on the chart!!!!! But losing too much to fast can
cause me to go way under the limit. Wish me luck and hope everyone
is having a good Tuesday. I am in Fayetteville, NC if anyone in the
area needs a close by friend to help them through this. Thanks for

Had my 6 week checkup yesterday

2008-06-17 22:32:41

Went in for my 6 week checkup and I had lost 36.8 pounds so far! I
also had a question that has been bothering me answered. For the
next 6 weeks we get instructions to eat protein and veggies at each
meal still 1 ounce cups to begin and add a bite more at each meal if
we can without being uncomfortable and at 5 weeks or see do
the 'cottage cheese' test to see what the volume of the stomach is.
I could not figure it out, why test the volume of the stomach if I am
only eating 1 ounce or so at a meal. Then they explained it to me
that our body is busy enlarging our pouches regardless of how much we
put into them, we cannot stretch them too far by eating too much,
but we can certainly make ourselves sick by eating too much. Or we
can damage the outlet. My doctor hopes for pouches 6 - 9 ounces at 2
years and the weight loss is the same regardless of the size of the
pouch at 2 years. He says pouches between 6 - 9 ounces allow a diet
with more choices than one that stopped at 3 1/2 ounces, but it is up
to what our bodies decide not us.

Personally for me i don't take anything you all say personally to each other but
what i do take seriously is my life. I am trying to learn new life coping skills
before i get my surgery not after i get my surgery . I am learning through you
ladies here the ones who have had the surgery are very benefical to me. The
ones who haven't had are as well because we are going through the same emotions
the changes the overwhelmings and the loses of a lover which is the food . Which
for me and i am speaking for me at 1 time was my lover , best friend and
confidant (sp).So you see i am sort of going into a mourning stage because i
have to give all old behaviors and not that i really have to but i want too. and
i hate when someone tells me i have too or i say to myself i can't because i
am rebellious my nature and so my brain automatically tells me. Oh you want to
bet you can do anything you want to and immediately i go the opposite direction.
So what i am trying to say here is i am
greatful that i have you all your all a wonderful bunch of ladies and really so
smart and such strong indivduals in your own rights. What ever it is that
brought you to this point in your life made you who you are today. Dont take
things so personal that you hold grudges they take way to much energy. and look
how far you have come. Ok now i will get off my soap box and back on my little
chair ok big chair (giggles) i am just trying to be helpful if i offended anyone
i am sorry.
In care always,
Denise in NJ.

Amy,
I totally agree about dropping it, I do not post here much, I do get pretty
postive responces when i do , i hope this does not discouarge you from asking if
you have any more questions , usually there is someone else with that same
question or someone else who did not think of the same question. I am learning
alot from this group. I am counting on them for info after my surgery (Oct 6th).
But I am glad to see you decided to stay with the group so far:)

Just a question? Would you or would you not get offended if someone came out
and told you that they didnt feel like you were using the surgery as a tool? I
took that offensively for one reason only..... that is because if you read my
post, it assk a question and also states i havent eaten any yet... that was my
whole purpose of posting the question in order to get some advice because i
didnt want to try it if someone else has and had problems... I myself like KIM
havent had anything fried, and I dont eat sweets, or anything bad for me, i just
had a question and was hoping for advice from this group not a judgement against
me... i asked a question, i didnt run out and eat a bucket of fried chicken, and
i just didnt apppreciate her saying she didnt think i was using the surgery as a
tool... Now, i only posted one or two responses to it, and it has turned into a
RAY situation.. Can we just drop it, its over, and done wwith , now lets move
on...

Yes I am new here and haven't got a surgery date yet, but one thing I
can say is that this stuff happens at most boards, (unfortunately)
one thing I have seen work is that the "bickering" is deleted and if
2 or more members have real "issues" they start an E-mail with all
involved and don't hang the dirty laundry out to effect EVERYONE.
If it's ignored it tends to lessen! Yet being a support board there
will be certain members who need extra TLC from time to time. I hope
no one leaves the board and in time I am sure everyone will realize,
the post was seen as a boulder to some and a pebble to others and if
that's understood it makes it easier.
Keep up all the good work guys

Very well said v. I think as humans we just are a little more sensitive
at imes and a little less sensitive at times. It just depends on what
day it hits us. And the written word never conveys the same meaning as
if it were being said in person. Just always try to think the best
until you determine the true meaning of something. And sometimes I
think that some of us need more attention that day than our messages
convey and we get upset when we don't get it or get the wrong kind of
response. It is not because the others don't care, it is because they
don't read our true need in our message. Not saying that is what
happened with this post, just speaking from myself. We all have our bad
and good days. But for the most part we are a great group that I would
hate to see fall apart. I know I need you guys.

Hi my name is Cheryl and I had the surgery on January 13,2003. I was
300 lbs when it was done and I am down to 150. A whole person lol.
Anyways, I have been struggling lately and I need to talk with
someone who might of had something like I am going through now. I go
into severe pain everytime I eat. Almost like dumping syndrome, but
much more severe. I cant even drink water sometimes it hurts to bad.
I need support to help me eat and uplift my spirits because I am
having a hard time. I am in the course of med-school so I can do the
surgery to help people but I am withering away literaly. It is hard
to go to school with no energy. The doctors are working on me and
hopefully will find a cure. I have already spent months in the
hospital rehydrating. Anyways, they dont have a clue. Hope someone
can shed some light or at least make me laugh again.

Hello everyone...
I posted last week that I was new to the group and was scheduled for
surgery on Oct 7th. I got a call from my doctor's office this
morning and they have moved me to Sep 23rd. NEXT THURSDAY!
I wasn't nervous until I looked at the calendar and realized that it
is so close! I'm really excited as well, but now I've got
butterflies in my stomach thinking about how close I am to a better
lifestyle!

I am so computer illiterate that it is not funny. Is there anyway to
set up a calendar within this group so that we could keep track of
everyone having surgery. So that we could look at it and remember who
is in the hospital when? Is that possible? I would love to have that
to look at to remember everyone's dates.

Re: Can anyone tell me

2008-06-12 04:20:07

I don't like most of the protein shakes cause the most common ones
are milk based and I DISLIKE milk - hate is closer to the real
emotion with milk. After my surgery I was trying to gag down
protein drinks with added protein powder and I was eating them so
fast to get them down it was making me sick. I found fruit juice
flavored protein drinks, Nectar Harvey Wallbanger and Strawberry Kiwi
are what I have now, but from looking there are other brands out
there too. Anyway these give you protein but are not milk based, I
think you could find something very similar to these at GNC or a
local low carb store maybe if you don't want to order them online.
By the way my husband who likes milk just loves the Extreme Smoothie
Chocolate Dream and Praline Scream protein drinks, they are spendy
but have 35 gr of protein per can.

RE: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Can anyone tell me

2008-06-11 05:04:04

Have you tried Sugarfree Carnation Instant Breakfast? My nutritionist
told me to even add powdered milk to the mixture to add additional
protein to it as well. The Instant Breakfast on its own does not have
as much protein as most shakes but with the added powdered milk it
really pushes it up there. Just a thought. And have you tried the
Isopure? They are not great but they are the best that I have found so
far. There is also the Unjury protein powder that I have been told has
no flavor and you can add to whatever you want. Hope this helps.

Can anyone tell me

2008-06-10 16:44:43

How should I be eating at 6weeks. Meaning should I be eating more
than a few bites of food, I am still have no appitite for food.
Thursday will be 6 weeks for me and weighed last week I was down 41
pounds feel good but still I know I am not getting in my correct
protein and this scares me because I can still only eat about 3 or 4
bites if I stretch it of any fool and still I have not found no
protein shakes or juices or anything that I can take. I tried to
just do the protein thing cause I know I needed it but I gaged like
mad on the stuff. I ask my pharmacy and they say Ensure, ok bought
it and loved it but it made me feel like the slim fast low carb did
like I was having a diabetic attack. Then I read online that Ensure
we should not drink. I am so depressed and hating myself cause I
just cannot tolerate something that I really need. I go back to the
doctor on the 20th so I going to ask my doctor if there is any pills
to help me out, cause I feel if I can't get the protein I need then
I not going to make it. Like I said in one post I do get in some
bites like from egg, fish, chicken, thats about all I eat bites of.
I do eat bake fish, but I have it fried sometime with canola oil. I
am just scared since I am protein drink and shake intolerable.

Tina,
Congrats on your accomplishments so far you are doing great!!!!! Keep up the

Some of my accomplishments and being 4-1/2 months out from surgery.
1. Off ALL meds....bp, celebrex, previcid, benytl, lexapro
2. Off CPAP machine for sleep apnea
3. Moved the car seat up three notches (I'm only 4'11"....lol)
4. Down 3 clothes sizes, started at 30/32 and down to 22/24 and almost into
18/20.
5. Can cross my legs
6. Can walk and climb stairs without losing my breath and having to stop
every few feet
7. Can cross my arms behind by back when my hands wouldn't hardly touch
before surgery.
The list can go on and on. I never thought I would be doing any of these
things again, before this surgery. This surgery has given me a new chance on
life, a long healthier life. Would love to hear other's accomplishments too.

Okay everyone. I am sitting here thinking about how my weightloss

I wanted to post some accomplishments and wanted some other inputs
to encourage our new members waiting for surgery.
1. I can walk up my flight of steps in the house w/o getting winded.
2. I can move the seat in the car up two spaces and still have room
before my belly hits the steering wheel.
3. I can wear all these clothes that I have had all these years
and "grew out of too fast"
4. I can ride my bike 1/4 mile with my son and he has to keep up
with me!!
Come on guys and gals. Give me your input!! Have a great Monday!!

Catherine, Congrats and best of luck on your upcoming surgery. I will try to
be as much help as I can with your questions. Iıım working on a WLS workbook
and on getting the Q&A section of my website going, but obesityhelp.com can
also be a great source of info.
1. Hereıs a great site for checking your weight loss at different
monthly/yearly intervals. Itıs for the Mini-GB, but has been very accurate
for my loss, some will be higher some lower, everyoneıs different, but this
seems to help in some regard: http://clos.net/predict-wt-loss.htm
2. Everything was placed and removed while I was under and there were no
complications so I canıt help you there. I was very nervous about all of
that as well, but to come out of surgery and have everything gone was a
welcome surprise.
Best of luck with the sleep study results and keep us all posted on your
surgery.

Hello there.
My name is Catherine from Rochester, NY. I started the WLS procedure
in 08/03. I have been there pysch., nutrition, group therapy,
numerous blood workups, chest Xrays, EKG and more.
My surgery is scheduled for 9/22 at Highland Hospital. My insurance
company has approved the WLS procedure.
I have some questions and know that there are folks out there with
the answers.
1. I am 41 years old. My height is 5 feet 2 inches and weigh 345
lbs. How much weight loss will I realistic achieve?
2. I have heard that they will insert a catheter. I am uncomfortable
with that as I nervous about complications, if they really are any.
What has been others experiences?
Lastly, I will know on 9/14 my results of my sleep disorders clinic
sleepover.
Thanks so much.

WANTS A QUICK FIX. I TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO HER THAT I STILL HAVE TO
WATCH WHAT I EAT AND EXERCISE AND SHE SAID TO ME OH YOU REALLY HAVE
TO DO THAT STUFF I THOUGHT THE WEIGHT JUST CAME OFF. THEN ABOUT A
MONTH OR SO AGO I WAS WATCHING THIS PROGRAM WITH MY DAUGHTER ON MTV
IT WAS ABOUT THESE OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE AND THEIR DIFFERENT STRUGGLES
AND WHAT REALLY GOT ME WAS THIS 17 YEAR OLD KID WAS ON THERE EATING
MCDONLDS LIKE 3-4 TIMES A DAY, WOULD NOT GET UP AND EXERCISE JUST
ATE ALL SORTS OF JUNK FOOD ALL THE TIME AND WHEN HIS MOTHER WOULD
TALK TO HIM ABOUT CHANGING HIS EATING HABITS HE SAID I WILL AFTER I
HAVE THE WLS. AGAIN NOT DIETING OR EXERCISING TO TRIALS AND FAILURES
JUST I WILL HAVE WLS AND EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT. I WANT TO
REACH THROUGH THE TV AND SHAKE THIS KID. I DID HOWEVER EMAIL MTV
WITH MY CONCERNS ON HOW SOME PEOPLE THINK OF WLS AND I ASKED THEM IF
THEY WOULD FORWARD MY EMAIL ADDRESS TO THAT KID BECAUSE I WOULD LOVE
TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT WLS, BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM.

Bobbi,
I have read your post and wanted to suggest you go back to your
weeks after surgery and start over again but add Protein to your
diet also like Shakes instead of food for every meal. I just had
surgery last week and on my clear liquids now but can have little
bit of sf jello/puddings etc... I wish you would think clearly
about how far you've come and decide to start over and give it

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Will my husband want other women?

2008-06-04 02:52:17

If he truly loves YOU, he will love you no matter what size you are. My
boyfriend loves my DD's too, well now they're already just D's...lol, but it's
ME
he loves not my boobs. I'm sure your husband will feel the same way. I'm
always afraid my boyfriend won't love me through the sagging skin and losing
hair
bit but he keeps reassuring me he will always be there as he always has been.
I'll keep you in my prayers that all will work out for you too!! Hang in
there.

Re: Will my husband want other women?

2008-06-03 22:46:47

He should love you because you are YOU. Not because you are a *big
girl*.. Yes, he may like big breasts. (As many men do) He should be
proud of you for doing this, and happy that now he can live a longer
and healthier life with you as his beautiful wife!! :)

P.S.- And if he doesn't.. Then SCREW HIM!!!

Will my husband want other women?

2008-06-03 12:27:58

My husband has always been a BBW lover. He loves big women. He is
attracted to them. He is attracted to me and my 42DD breasts. I
wonder if he will still be happy with me and not go look for another
big woman after I lose all that weight. I will be half the woman he
wants. My breasts will probably go down to a B and I know he likes
big boobs. Please someone reasure me that he will still love me even
if I am half the person. UGH!!

I'm truly sorry that you are having to deal with all those negative people in
your life. As for your surgeon, first thing I would do is report his
behavior. Are there any other surgeon's in your area? Support groups? What about
other
patients of this surgeon, could you talk to any of them for support?
What about seeing a mental health professional? Someone outside of the
situation might be able to help.
I understand about the emotional eating problem. That is the thing that
worries me the most about myself when I'm post-op. Will I be able to deal with
stresses without using food as my crutch? I've been in therapy for about a year
just to help me with that very thing. I wanted to get a handle on it and learn
other ways to deal with problems before my surgery.
It's difficult enough to deal with all this stuff without the added pressure
of family who aren't supportive. Try not to be around them if they are
bringing you down. This is difficult but I've had to break relationships off
with
people who were always putting me down and always had negative comments. (this
included family members) Until they are willing to accept who I am and be more
supportive they aren't allowed around me.
Try to keep in mind that even though you have regained some weight you still
have lost a lot and that is a POSITIVE! Do you remember what you did in the
beginning to help you lose the pounds? Were you exercising, drinking water,
getting in protein? Try to get back to some of those things, even if it's a
little
at a time. Focus on the feelings you had when you were able to do things
again for the first time that you hadn't been able to do before the surgery.
I'd be happy to stay in touch with you if you'd like. I'm just an email away.
Focus on the good things..don't let stupid salespeople get stuck in your
head. We have the control of how we let others affect us.
Sincerely,
Dawn in Orlando

Debbie..I think that most people can't remember exact dates and 's
etc when it comes to this part of it. I just guesstimated when I
filled out the diet history form. Nobody questioned me.

Linda Lou <iamllu@...
Kim,
Then I don't feel so bad if your diet was similiar...LOL! I didn't
get any pops in the hospital but had bought some for home. Its not
on my diet but...I'm doing them anyway. Not often just one last
night. I've been ready old post and really sorry what you are going
through right now. I had pray'd before when you spoke of your
husband and feel like I need to do this again. I agree about
bringing them home too soon after a incident but Kim, we love these
men and sometimes we put aside what should be done to do what we
want done. I've caught my husband chatting with an old girlfriend.
I am letting him know it and if our marriage fells from my doing so
then I feel God didn't want us to last. I just have always felt
like you have to be upfront and honest about it all. Otherwise they
feel like they can get away with it all the time. Now in this email
I found from him to her...it was disturbing but he did state "I love
my wife and would never cheat on her". I know those words are just
that "words" but at least he said them. Well sorry if I am digging
up something over and done with but I just wanted to put in my .02.
Hugs, Linda in AL.
