Well, everyone I just had to share. I did it!!! I made it under the 200
mark!!! I haven't seen this weight in 30 years. Quite a few more lbs. to go
for goal. This is a milestone for me. It was one of my(mini) goals. It feels
so good to know that I am making progress in this journey. Thanks for
listening. Stay healthy, exercise, make good choices. Cindy in MI 11/24/03

Almost 4 Month Update

2008-07-31 16:59:53

Just wanted to let everyone know how I have been doing. I had my
surgery May 27, 2004. I am currently 3 months and 3 weeks out. I
have lost a total of 80 lbs. This was my first "big" goal. I also
didn't realize that my next goal is soon after that. I think that if
everything goes well this week, lots of tests at college, that I
will meet my goal of being under 200. Can't wait for the next
morning that I wake up meeting a goal. Good luck to all of you next
week who are changing sides, and congratulations to all
the "losers". My advice for the night is to set many "little" goals
for yourself, it really gains confidence. Love you all and glad that
everyone is safe from Ivan.

Re: [Gastric_Bypass_Family] Ok

2008-07-29 17:13:10

I have found Carb Countdown chocolate milk and I am in love with it. It is 100
calories for an 8 ounce glass, 3 sugar and 14 protein. It is yummy and very
cheap. I am going to use it to replace protein drinks that I disliked anyway.
Alice hardestyal hardesty@...

Ok

2008-07-29 11:18:03

I found this lovely lil carb countdown drink today its called a
Lowfat Yogart smoothie already mixed for ya. Made by atkin priced at
a 1.99 a bottle chilled already in your grocey store.
100 calories
2 grams sat fat.
cholesterol 10 mg
sodium 45 mg.
total carbs 4 grams.
dietary fiber 0g.
sugars 1 g.
protein 13 grams.
I suppose ya have to shake it well and drink it over ice or
something or else it would taste like chalk. But i got the peach
flavored. All in all really not that bad considering it was my first
one meaning protein drink. Actually as i sit here drinking the rest
of it as my dinner it isn't really that bad. They had other flavors
to i think i remember cherry and wild berry and some others also.
Just thought i would share that with everyone.
In care always,
Denise.

That must be so very disppointing for you. I am sorry to hear that
and I hope you will be okay as far as your other medical problems
go.
Do not give up on good health though Barbie! You are so worth the
effort and the journey it is taking to get there.
I know it doesn't always help to say this but I believe everything
happens for a reason and in it's own time how it was meant to
happen. Maybe this is not the best time for your WLS to take place
in your life but some day it just might be.
In the meantime take care of yourself and your body and learn as
much as you possibly can about weight loss and WLS along with good
nutrition and maybe you will be able to get back on the road to WLS
sooner than you think.
Take care of yourself and NEVER give up!

Re: "physician weight loss plan"

2008-07-25 07:23:02

Most insurance policies do not pay for doctor supervised weight loss
and you would have to pay out of pocket and so the doctor would charge
you many times more what they would be paid by the insurance company
according to their contracts and since in most cases you cannot afford
this for a couple of months let alone 6 months it is another way to
avoid paying for surgery. Simple as that.
When I was diagnosed as diabetic my doctor at least did find a
diabetic education group and gave me two videos to watch and return.
Those videos said is was a simple thing to lose the weight needed,
just buy spagetti sauce without sugar as one of the main ingredients
and walk a few blocks everyday and be happy. But that did qualify as
a physician led weight loss program.

I can hardly believe the day has FINALLY come! I've been going through this
process since last Oct! So, almost a year, and it's NOW!!!!
They're doing it open - I've had two vertical c-sections, and they are also
doing a gallbladder removal and heria fix (from the c-section). I'll be in the
hospital 4 - 6 days. You can send me an ecard at the hospital! I would really
like that: http://www.memorialmedical.com/Info_Desk/greetingcard.htm My full

So many emotions, so little time! I've got major cleaning to do at my house
this weekend. Between my husband, my parents and my mother-in-law, and a
neighbor family - I've got the kids all taken care of for the next couple weeks
- which is wonderful. And, my angel Ramona has been a blessing.
Monday I go to St. John's hospital to have a PICC Line placed. Then, at noon I
start my bowel prep and anti-biotic regimen. Ew. Then Tuesday morning I go to
Memorial at 7:00 am and check in!!!! Because my insurance usually doesn't cover
anything at MMC, I do all the pre-testing stuff, and the PICC line there.
Thanks for all of your support - I'll keep you posted! Katie

"physician weight loss plan"

2008-07-21 02:19:28

MY ASS! last night i went to my primary physician to be put on
a "physician supervised weight loss plan"
what a joke! she weighs me, tells me to go on a 1500 calorie diet
and that she would see me in a month.
HOW CAN insurance companies prefere that over weight watchers where i
am weighed in weekly- given a diet plan-keep a food journal and have
support! the doctor gave me one sheet of paper that told me foods to
avoid--took my copay..billed my insurance company and i think its
obserd!

Angela,
Did they tell you what sort of PFT as I have had a couple of different types
done in my life as I have COPD.
The PFT done for mu WLS surgeon onvoled my blowing into a tube so that they can
see what lung function as well oxygen levels in the blood.
There is another PFT that involves sitting in a sort of box & doing different
breathing, etc.
Hope this helps.

Had the Pulmonary Function Tests done.. If its the same as I had,
you go into this little chamber/breathing room, and they hook you up
to a breathing/oxygen machine that controls and regulates your
breathing to see if something is wrong with your lungs before the
surgery.. The little breathing room is funny looking.. Kinda looks
like a little bus thing, that I didn't think I'd fit in.. But I

Shirley,
My grandmother said that we should just dunk what we want to fry in egg sub..
roll it in red mill pastry flour and shake off excess , put in hot skillet
sprayed with pam and then spray chicken/fish with pam when it's bronw on both
sides put lid on it and let it cook till done :) so brown first lid it and
simmer it ;)
Hope this helps

You have to get it notarized, and sometimes they will write it up

Yale required me to have a living will, i also had my husband a paper giving him
the right to make any decisions for me in case anything goes wrong with me he
makes the decisions what if any medical treatment i receive. I asked if i can
write something up and have it noterized and they said a legal office or officer
has to write it up adn be noterized. Luckily hubby is in the navy so i had it
done at teh legal office on base. i guess you can call around where you live and
see who can do it for you.

so how did you go about it? Meaning do you just write
it up and sign it and get it notarized or something??
Or do I have to go to a lawyer to do that?

I am a country girl and I remember vividly having to haul water from the
creek to our house during the winter when our pipes would freeze. Hey,
you do what you gotta do. Just give him that story and tell him that at
least it is not freezing out while he has to haul the water.
And a couple of people in my support group at the hospital said that
they have been very cold. The nutritionist said that as your body is
rapidly loosing the weight your internal thermometer might not be able
to regulate your body temp correctly and therefore people get cold.

Hey Tammy. While I am not as far out as you are and doing so
awesome!!! (great job to you) I had a stall for three weeks straight
from week 5 til week 8. Then someone on here (I believe it was
Linda, wanna give credit where credit is due. Sorry if I am wrong)
suggested the protein train. Where you go back to drinking just
protein shakes for all your meals and drinking water for 3 days. I
did it over the Labor day weekend and I lost 7 pounds in the three
days and 3 more since then. I slowly added the food back in and am
still seeing the inches falling off. You may wanna try that. Good
luck!!

2008-07-09 05:29:20

You're right Angela. I jumped too quick on the first recipe I saw.
Bisquick is part of the betty crocker site and there are lots of
good recipes there. I need to get some ink for my printer and then I
think I am going to print them out and start my own
little 'cookbook" and try some new ideas. I am going to try meatloaf
this weekend but I usually make it really moist by adding watery
bread to it. Don't wanna do that so I am thinking of new ways to do
it. Last night, I ate 2/3 of a homemade burger on the grill. I used
worshiresire (?) sauce and added shredded cheese in the meat. I used
an egg and onion powder. It was sooooo moist and I had no problems
eating that. I even added an extra slice of cheese on top and I was
bursting with protein!!
Thanks,
Tina

protein per serving. Just to let ya know. (they have great snacks

Have a question about how to jump start my weight loss again

2008-07-08 02:19:34

Hi guys!
I am 10 months post-op and I have lost 145 lbs with the gastric
bypass Lap (started at 350lbs) I am over joyed with the progress but
now I am not losing at all and I am wanting some suggestions from
other gb patients on to how to jump start it again. I realize that
you go through plattos and then in a few weeks you start losing again
and I have went through that before but now it has been over 1 1/2
months since I have lost any weight and maybe to increase my protein
or something. I am expercising alot and maybe I am gaining musle but
it doesn't feel like I am going down any sizes either, so I am
confused. Maybe, do you think, I have strentched out my stomach
alittle and maybe now I am maintaining and not losing? I don't know,
I want to lose about 60 more pounds before I call it quits and I am
getting upset about the stand still. please help!

Yes sadly I have seen the destruction being left behind. I am like
a kid going from room to room and taking my treasures to pack
away...LOL!!! I have put clothes on the bed and when hubby come's
home will pack them away. I have rounded up the outside cats and
Buddy my dog is my constant companion/shadow is beside me. I have
unearthed the ice chest and filled just about every container I have
besides the bathtubs with water. Luckly I have a gas stove/oven so
we are covered there. I remember as a child in San Antonio one
hurricane that actually brought Seagulls with it. I thought that
was the coolest thing...LOL!!! My big sister fed me a bull story
about fish hitting our back door but couldn't find them either. I
agree I think God is trying to tell us something and if he'd just
spell it out I'd prefer it better than these terrible moments. BTW,
I love the snow!!! My grandparents lived in Montana and would love
my summer snow's up there. Still have family living there and visit
from time to time. Might end up that way myself someday since hubby
likes it too.

Ok use the "egg substitute" and the tiny'st bit of flour.. My grand mother uses
wheat pastry flower I jsut use a tiny dusting of flour. spray it with pam brown
in a frying pan. on high heat till very brown or as brown as you like.. then you
put it in the overn with a tablespoon of water covered adn bake low for a half
hour or so till very tender. It is delicious :D

I still like it cold and ceiling fans going on high even in the
winter...like air moving...LOL!!! I just add socks when I need to
and a throw to cuddle up in.

I've noticed our "family" tends to do that...make us remember good
times...and bad times but more good memories.

gammy still helps me LOL anyway it's really easy I swear and it
tastes the same without actually frying the foods :)

Angela...your too much with the thumping on your Mom's forehead! I
had an ex-boyfriend who would do that to me...heehee!!! To
aggravate him when he pissed me off...go and get ice to crunch and
crunch till he gave in.

I was freezing for the first 6 months after my
surgery. It seemed like I could never get warm. I
heard it's from the burning of fat in your system and
losing weight rapidly. Also the lightheadedness may
be from not enough liquids.

Wow! 2.99 seems like a lot of money. Especially if
you drink 2 or 3 a day! I've bought mine at Costco
and it figured to just over $1 a piece.

Re: Laurette

Laurette,
You made tears flow...I know everything can be replaced but I have
my childhood memories (yes I am a pack rat) and antiques I inherited
and we worked so hard to get where we are together...in our home. I
told Don last night we needed to invest in parachutes...what goes up
must come down...LOL!!! I have to have humor to survive these
bundle of nerves...much worse than prior to surgery also...LOL!!!
Its funny you mentioned coming north...I told Don we needed a
vacation and could drive and go and meet my friends from here. He
thinks his work will demand them to be coming in eitherway....so its
off for now...boohoo!!! Someday over the rainbow...

Linda,
Please just take care of yourself and family. Your home can be replaced
eventually but you can't and we don't want anything happening to you and yours.
Take care my friend and good luck. Please keep us posted. Your always welcome
to come up here to me in Ohio you know.

Kristy,
My husband was here when the last one went through and it was a
lesser category as Ivan...said it defistated Anniston/Oxford area
and electriciy was out for day's. So he's out looking to
borrow/rent cheap a generator...so far no luck. Money is alittle
light in our pockets after the hospital co-pay. I don't want to
leave our home but may have to if it gets really bad...we live in a
doublewide on several acres amongst hills which I would think helps
some for protection. I hate not being able to help with picking up
and preparing since most weigh's more than a milk jug...LOL!!!
Big hugs, Linda in Al.
